can the Grand Final crowd attract 40,000 ?
i reckon given a nice day like today it can certainly get to that magical figure, in the 50th anniversary of their meeting (albeit Port are in a different form) in 1967

I reckon it will give 40k a decent shake. Sturt supporters will definitely come out in droves. Will enough Power supporters be able to brave Adelaide Oval 2 weeks after the AFL EF?

Could but I predict it will fall short
Weather forecast is a shower or two with a max of 16c ... not great.
Port and Norwood came close in 2014 with 38,664. It was the 1st GF at Adelaide Oval in about 40 years, from memory was a warm day.
Port Power had played the night before but in Fremantle.
This year Adelaide Crows have a Friday Night game at Adelaide Oval.
I expect something around 35,000 with neutrals lower due to weather and AFL game in town.

are there any PA supporters left?
probably get around 28,000-30,000 Sturt people
1,500 neutrals ,and, 1000 in "Adelaide Power" gear

No it was against Freo out West .... Gary Hocking Port Magpies coach went to Perth on AFL duties then caught the red eye back from Perth via Melbourne overnight. Got into Adelaide 9am for to coach his team that afternoon.
I know many coaches have sleepless nights before a Grand Final but that was something else.

Scrunch is correct, the Power played Freo the night before the prelim v South. I remember it well.
36-37 would be a good result.

Ok I checked and stand corrected (0/3 for the day, should just quit now ) ... It was v Freo in a AFL First Semi Final (SANFL prelim week) ... and yes Power won, went onto lose to Hawthorn in AFL prelim GF week.
Lots of Power people did make road trip to Melb, not many got back into time for SANFL GF so maybe a few more Port people than 3 years ago.

If the crowd can attract 40,000 imagine what the Grand Final itself could attract.

I reckon it can get 40k - Sturt have a great following and Port supporter numbers will increase by plenty on 2014. Also a pretty attractive game for neutrals.

Reckon it’ll push 40k today. Already a heap in an hour pre-game.

I think the public open area is just about full (level 5 of the Riverbank Stand is closed though)

Not really relevant, I suppose, but I got in for free and left after the Reserves final..... There would have been a lot of free tickets.

does that really matter ? free or not the match attracted nearly 40,000 people
without knowing i'd suggest the VFL & WAFL grand finals wouldn't have got close to that & perhaps combined they might have got there............
does anyone know the crowd figures for those two grand finals please ?

Pedantic, I know, but the match didn't attract all of those people, some left after the Reserves final. I'm pleased to see 40,000 at the Final, but some went for the early game, and lots had free tickets.

I have had free tickets to at least the last 10 Grand Finals and none of them have been as big a crowd.
Norwood vs North and Norwood vs Port in 2013 and 2014 were very good crowds above 36,000 but to attract virtually 40,000 to a SANFL Grand Final is fantastic. And as for leaving before the main game, I would doubt that more than 100 people would have done that.
More than twice as many attended the SANFL Grand Final compared to the WAFL. People still love their SANFL clubs which is something that doesn't seem to happen nearly as often in the other major competitions.

A bit off subject....
I wonder if whoever controls the food outlets is making a killing ...all i wanted was a pie during the reserves, went to an outlet only to find i had to put money on a card , then use that card to buy a pie...So if i put $10 on a card, bought a pie for lets say $5.50, can i get my $4.50 that i haven't spent back? Anyway, i said no thanks and had a hotdog instead, i don't like the idea of a cashless system.
