The Diamond?

Greetings all,

Check out this old WAFL footy photo that I came across on facebook, the year is 1974 and it is the Grand Final between Perth and East Fremantle. The diamond is clearly marked out on the ground as opposed to the square that we have. One of the posters there suggests that 1974 was the last year of the diamond in the WAFL. Just wondering if this was unique to WA or if we had it here in SA also?

the diamond was used in South Australia & it went to a centre square in the mid 1970's....the 1973 Glenelg v North Grand Final had the diamond & i think a year or two after that it was changed to the square

The (then) VFL, the SANFL and the WAFL all had the diamond before switching to the square.

yep, probably all parts of our magnificent country did

Without checking I reckon it came in here in '73, because I associate it with Bob Keddie coaching Westies. Can't remember how long it lasted but it wouldn't have been more than a couple of years.

1974 GF between Sturt and Glenelg at Footy Park had the diamond I reckon.
Don't recall it after that.
