Correct me if I am wrong but I thought the reserves team for the magpies ended at the end of this year and that it was a transitionary move? As for their top up players, like the Crows they were able to access players from Amatuer League sides that SANFL clubs did not want along with players that were already in their side before they became the AFL reserves team?

I know it's a popular subject, but I've never got into whether it's the Power, the Magpies, Port Adelaide or whatever.

Makes no difference to me, I don't mind whatever they're called, we all know what we mean.

Well Lee I see your point but when I call them Power reserves I have been attacked personally for calling them that by Port supporters! "It's the Magpies!"

Then I call them Port Magpie reserves and get attacked for calling them that by non-port supporters! "It's the power reserves!"

It matters to me as I can't win whatever I call them ! Crying or Very sad

my understanding is these players that play in the SANFL's reserves comp . Are Port Adelaides academy side .
These players come from Port Adelaides old zone which is now the Eagles zone . They can play for Port Adelaide only if the Eagles didnt want them .
Too me its a total joke Port Adelaide rorting the system .These players should not be playing for Port Adelaide .
Port Adelaide can not draft all these players into the AFL no matter how many would qualify for father son .

I hope this Academy side does not retrun in 2016 . And Port Adelaide plays under the same rules as the Adelaide football Club .
Dont like it leave the SANFL
oh wait you did that before haha

So technically they are the Eagles Reserves, reserve players. As they are second now, how strong an the unbeaten Eagles reserves be.

on a more serious note, what is the qualifying credentials of Port players for SANFL finals ? i can see the AFL team having more changes to blood younger players for experience & so forth over the next few weeks seeing their season is done, along with the obvious advantage of making sure they will get every possible chance of winning ''something'' for the year, with that ''something'' being an SANFL flag..................might be time to back them to win it

I am not sure that there are any, as I am aware, any Port Power player can play in the Reserves at any time of the season, whether their AFL side is out of contention for the AFL Grand Final is probably not a concern to thier heirarchy. That said though I am fairly certain that the AFL players association have a view that players should not be required to continue playing and training once their side completes the AFL home and away season without making the finals or drops out of finals contention. Weather that has any influence or not on what actually happens I am not sure at all.

PAFC SANFL League Finals qualification
• No qualification criteria for AFL listed players during the SANFL finals series when the PAFC is still involved at AFL level.
• Should the PAFC not be involved at AFL level, a player must have played the majority of his Football at SANFL level, or 3 of the last 5 games at SANFL level to qualify.

The SANFL has released a list of the AFL-listed players eligible to participate in this year’s IGA League finals series.
Port Adelaide: Karl Amon, Logan Austin, John Butcher, Darcy Byrne-Jones, William Frampton, Mitchell Harvey, Dougal Howard, Tom Logan, Jesse Palmer, Jarrad Redden, Johann Wagner.

SANFL Football Services Manager Matt Duldig said the SANFL’s finals qualification rules required AFL-listed players to play more SANFL matches than AFL matches across the season, including three games after June 30.
Players such as Kane Mitchell, Andrew Moore, Jake Neade, Cam O’Shea and Sam Colquhoun are all on the verge of qualification.

Minor correction: the 3 of the last 5 games at SANFL level applied last season; this season it is 3 games after 30 June 2015 at SANFL level (as well as more SANFL matches than AFL matches played across the season)

Is it an AND or OR re qualification criteria ? It's an important difference having to qualify under one condition only or having to meet both.
