Radio stations
Been some memorable Radio Stations, Disc jockeys , Shock Jocks , Sporting Commentators, Talk Back hosts etc on Adelaide radio past and present
The one I listen to mostly these days is 1323 , what I call radio Dom !
It used to be 5DN in the old days , and used to have racing coverage at one stage
When I first started listening to radio I was an avid 5AD listener
I was a fan of Bazza Ion , Bob Francis and one of the greatest of them all , John Vincent
John Vincent , dead set legend
Was in a band superbly named The Ken Oath Band
They performed a few times at the Findon Hotel

Re: Radio stations
Didn't John Vincent had a record out that went reasonably well? The song title i can't remember but the lyrics were something about having a BBQ.
What lyrics i do remember are.. 'The rain is pouring down, the chops are getting wet, and we haven't even started the fire yet'. something like that.

Re: Radio stations
Remember this one line tune ?
" Time to turn so you wont burn."
That was a message on Radio 5AD
It was so you would not get sun burnt
It was about early 1970s ???

Re: Radio stations
yep, late 60's early 70's. Remember it well when we (family) spent a day at Moana beach...every 1/2 hour the tune came over the radio for those who were sun baking. And at the time, getting skin cancer from sun baking wasn't thought much of.Scrappy wrote:Remember this one line tune ?

29/12/1982
Bazz and Pilko
Quit 5AD and joined 5KA
29/5/1987
Ken Dicken and Kevin Crease
Axed from 5DN
Dicken did a morning show with Leigh Hatcher
Dicken was shocked
Why ?
Because he was told in person by someone from another radio station !
Kevin Crease and David Christie also got the chop at that time as well

The original frequency was 1200 but was changed to 1197 in the seventies.
The station was owned by the Central Methodist Mission, I remember 5KA being in Franklin street (I used to work in the GPO)
They went over to the FM band around 1990 and became KAFM and are now known as Triple-M
The old frequency was taken over as Bayman says by 5RPH

Bayman I think 5PI which was from Pt Pirie on the am band 1044 was changed to 5CS many years ago, not sure that it still exists.
