That brings back a lot of memories FB, Friday night channel 10, plenty of horror movies and all in black & white.

This is off subject
But in those times I played a lot of junior footy against Kilburn
The Kilburn players would egg each other on , and acknowledge each other as Chickys
Not until years later did I find out about Chickys

Kilburn decades earlier was called Chicago
Chicago had a poor reputation in America with gangsters crime etc
Chicago was re-named Kilburn

Thats how the football nick name came about
Chickys was about Chicago

Yep it was called little Chicago and we used to go to his house and try get him to come out. Can't for the life of me think of the street name. I played for kilburn from 1965 till 1967 cubs and junior colts.

It was December 1968
Soul singer Otis Reading was convinced he had a hit song
He was told this recording was not his normal style by others
He defied the pessimists

7/12/1968
Sitting On The Dock Of The Bay was recorded
10/12/1968
Otis Reading died in a plane crash
The song was a hit , Otis never got to find out if he was right or wrong with this song

DAN BLOCKER
Would be celebrating his 86th birthday today if he was still a'round'

Hoss sired 4 children all with a similarity
Danna
David
Debra
Dirk

All 4 first names started with D

Hoss served in the Korean war and was later an activist against the Vietnam war
In 1968 the Blockers migrated to Switzerland thus protecting their children from any possible involvement in the Vietnam war

Blocker who is not related to Geoffrey Boycott , one of the great TV cowboys

infamous ''great train robber'' Ronnie Biggs died on this day in 2013

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ronnie_Biggs

his occupation & motive are interesting to read

he was the father of a junior Fitzroy player Chris Brent

and on the other side of life it is the birthday of Steven Spielberg, who turns 68 whose networth as of 2012 $US3.200 billion.......................................movie making would have been a better motive & occupation for Ronnie Biggs

Ronnies son had a season for the Fitzroy football club under 18s and kicked 95 goals
His team-mates ended up being a couple of fair footballers
Gary Pert
Paul Roos

It was rumoured Chris was going to play for West Adelaide
He didnt and ended up playing football in Tasmania for a couple of seasons

How hard would have been for Chris Brent in life trying to make a name as a footballer , because of his father?
95 goals in a season = potential

JOE COCKER
Born :20/5/1944
Died :22/12/2014
Gone but not forgotten for sure
He should share the title of the wild one with the late great Johnny Okeefe

Perhaps his greatest recording was Up Where We Belong
That was the theme song for the great movie An Officer And A Gentlemen starring the inimitable Richard Gere

Joes substance taking ultimately became a saying in the AFL
I reckon it was Rex Hunt who coined the saying
" Heez higher than Joe Cocker."

This is little known but Joe was in Grease

The song You Are So Beautiful was a terrific recording
It sounds provocative with you listen to the 'You Are So' lyric ...

Joe and his band caused a sensation in Adelaide in 1972
They were arrested for possession of dope
Joe had this to say in a Melbourne concert soon after
" In 5 years  marijuana will be legalised in Australia and the same cat who is trying to throw us out now will be smoking it himself."
This did little to impress the minister of Immigration though, Cocker and his band were forced to a'band'on the tour the next day !

R.I.P Joe Cocker

Donna Douglas, better known for her role as Elly May Clampett of "the Beverly hillbillies' died on January 1st . The cause of her death was pancreatic cancer.
She was born September 26 1933 and played the part on the hit show from 1962 through to 1971.
As Elly May I thought she was a stunner RIP

ROD STURT TAYLOR
R.I.P.
Born :11/1/1930 [would have been 85 on the day of this post]
Died :7/1/2015

One of the great Australian born actors
Starred in 2 iconic movies Birds and The Time Machine

STURT
This one for Chambo
His middle name of Sturt is not named after the football club
He was named Sturt after his Great Great Grand Uncle
That being the great explorer Captain Charles Sturt
Rods dad acquired the Sturt name as well, William Sturt Taylor

ROCKY
One starring role Rod missed out on was in Somebody Up There Likes Me
That was the great great movie depicting Rocky Graziano
Rod would have been taylor made for the part, Paul Newman got the role
I cant imagine anyone playing Rocky better than the RAMBunctiOus part Newman played

THE BIRDS
Not the great folk band of the 60's called The Byrds
What a movie , Rod with Tipi Hedren [MELANIE Griffiths mum]
A touch of irony Hedrens part was MELANIE Daniels ...
Others who were in line for Taylors part:
Sean Connery
Farley Granger
Carey Grant
I reckon all 3 would have played the part well

PLANET OF THE APES
Rod was considered for the part that Charlton Heston played
The irony of it all is that Heston was George TAYLOR in the movie

In reference to Howard Hughes wanting her to change her name

This stunner ironically died 4 days after the passing of Rod Taylor

Colleen Mccolloughs mother was a New Zealander
The irony of this is that Colleen was born in Wellington in New South Wales
Its a small world after all

Never read her book The Thornbirds
But did see the TV mini series starring English born Rachel Ward
Seem to recall in a recently aired interview Ward had and being bitter she didnt win a major award  from this series  , whilst others on the series did.
Perhaps a bit of Brown nosing was required !
Superb actress in my opinion
