Weather and Climate Change
I can't remember temperatures of 48 and 49 degrees so regularly in times past. These relate to about 120 degres Fahrenheit and it's becoming rekatively common.

Incredible pictures of Niagara Falls on last nights news showing it completely frozen--The water going over the falls was frozen solid as if standing still.
Then we had vision of a ship full of scientists down in the Antarctic last week who needed rescuing because there ship could not move due to it being frozen in.

This is a cartoon that is thought-provoking, to say the least.

Haha, that cartoon actually sums up my view on the whole situation.
Whether you believe in it or not, there can be no harm in doing what we can to look after the world we live in.
Pumping any pollution anywhere ain't good, whether it's rubbish into landfill, chemicals into water courses, or gases into the sky. Finding alternatives should be top priority for humanity IMO.

I wonder about the "for nothing" comment - as though there is no cost involved. Like many billions haven't been spent on mostly ineffective schemes that are of debatable benefit.
I saw somewhere that if we add up the cost of all the renewable energy plants, and carbon taxes and carbon trading schemes over the last ten years we could have provided permanent clean drinking water and a free vaccinations for Malaria, TB and some other nasties for every child in Africa and Sth America.
I think I am starting to become a sceptic. The planet has been both warmer and colder then today in the past and we dont really know the patterns or rates of change of "non-human" climate change to see whether this is abnormal or just what happens occasionally. I wonder if it is not so much about "saving the planet" (whatever that means) as much as it is about saving our 21st century affluent consuming culture. God forbid that our supply of decaf Latte with a shot of soy be threatened!

Fair enough, UH, but the climate is behaving pretty well exactly as 98% of the world's climate scientists said it would.
The number and severity of days over 40% in Adelaide in recent years is more than a natural pattern to me and I'm inclined to believe NASA and the CSIRO than some of the people trotted out by those who don't believe it is happening.
I think being a sceptic is fine, but being a denier is a worry.

Haven't read this properly yet, but might be a good discussion paper.
