Salary Cap Tracker
Just for interest and with no claim to be scientific, TFSA will be keeping an eye on this year's recruiting by clubs from a salary cap point of view.
From the 'official' TFSA ins and outs, we'll be classifying each player into a category. We'll presume that all clubs are at the salary cap level to start with. This is not correct, especially with a club like Sturt, who would have been well under.
This is just for fun and discussion purposes and TFSA acknowledges that it has no bearing on any official salary cap situation. Not all players play all games, of course. There are sign-on fees, etc, so no conclusions can be drawn from this at all. Clubs report to the SANFL for salary cap purposes and that's the only correct standard.
Player categories will be:
Normal match payment player $10,000
Solid SANFL player with experience $15,000
Good SANFL player, Rookie listed AFL. $20,000
Top SANFL player, experienced VFL recruit, etc $25,000
Delisted AFL player, elite SANFL player $30,000
Comments and discussion welcome and we'll start a list and upgrade it regularly.

Re: Salary Cap Tracker
NORWOOD:
Outs are AFL players: Stevenson, Grigg and Renouf - Classing them as $10,000 players as per Cap rules (approx) Averaging for number of games played, estimated cost is $15,000 (rounded)
Suckling - $25,000, Zorzi $30,000, Warren, $20,000.
Running total $105,000 under cap.
Aish, Fuller, Fantasia, Dumont, add $40,000,
Leaves $145,000.
Add $10,000 for Thomas and $20,000 for Georgiou and that makes a s...load of moolah to throw at 2 top recruits and have plenty of change.
We're declaring Norwood well under the cap for 2014.
Deduct $60,000 (cheap) for Bartlett and Allan and Norwood are still way under. ($115,000)

Re: Salary Cap Tracker
NORTH
Outs are Johnston, Wright, Moore to AFL.
All listed at $10,000, averaging for games played,so North are currently $15,000 under the cap.
Daniel Archer $25,000
Makes North $40,000 under.
Out is Stewart (AFL) $10,000, makes $50,000.
In is Jimmy Allan, $30,000.
Grove, base $10,000 to be conservative. Sandercock and Barns also on the minimum $10,000 each
Puts North nominally $10,000 over.
Bear in mind only 21 can play, so no conclusions can be drawn at this stage for any club, it is an indicator only.
Gordon out, $30,000, leaves North $20,000.
Langford out, add $15,000, leaves North $35,000.
Obst in $20,000, leaves $15,000.
Luke Mitchell In, $30,000, puts North $15,000 over.
Rhys O'Keefe in, $30,000, puts North $45,000 over.
Jesse O'Brien in, $30,000, leaves North $75,000 over.
Discount for 2 players returning, $20,000, leaves North still $55,000 over, compared to last year.***************** Danger sign.
Add back Jimmy Allan, brings it to $25,000.
Highly unlikely North's 3 recruits from the AFL would all be on $30,000, so North are about the mark.

WEST
AFL outs are Porplyzia, Laird, Cassisi and Crouch
All at $10,000, but played only a few games, so total 'cost' is estimated at $10,000 total.
Other Outs: Ferguson $30,000, Mangan $25,000, Slattery $25,000
West are therefore $90,000 under the cap.
West sign Rookie Richard Newell, say $20,000, leaving $70,000.
Tippett out, another $30,000, leaves $100,000.
Anyone know a good defender or two?
Hardy brings it back to $75,000
Rankine out, back to $90,000.

Re: Salary Cap Tracker
Bryce Campbell would be an OUT for Norwood too.
This topic should provide some light entertainment, but obviously doesn't take into account factors like employment for the player (and sometime their partner I would guess).

Re: Salary Cap Tracker
That's correct. It also doesn't take into account reductions in some players year to year to make room.
As we stress, it's for fun only and no implications can be drawn from it.

Re: Salary Cap Tracker
EAGLES ****
AFL outs - Thompson, Stewart, Ellis-Yolmen, Vince, Petrenko, Mitchell, Redden, Heath, Joyce, Salter
Given the number of games played, we're assessing that at $40,000
Other - Rowntree ($10,000, allowing for injury, etc), Day $10,000 (allowing for games played), Kirk (Nil), Parry $20,000
Total is $80,000 room in their salary cap.
Wundke in is assessed at $25000 (no doubt more, though)
Leaves $55,000
Boyd $30,000, leaves $25,000. Staple $15,000, makes $40,000.
Wundke and Boyd would cost more than the figures we've quoted, so we'll put a **** next to the Eagles to denote they're close to the cap.
Powell $25,000, makes $65,000.
Templeton $10,000 makes $55,000.

STURT
AFL - Tambling, Jaensch, Graham, Kerridge, Martin, Riley. Assessed at $50,000.
Crane $20,000
In Sturt's case, we think it's fair also to presume they were under the cap by at least $50,000 last year, probably much more?
Therefore, room in the cap of $120,000.
For this thread, we're presuming Sturt have signed Beard, Kirkwood and Watt.
That's $30K, $25K and $15K, total $70,000.
Leaves $45,000.
McIntyre goes, that leaves $55,000.
Tambling in at $30,000, that leaves $25,000.
Tom Rischbeith out, that $10,000 leaves $35,000.

We'll update these figures as time goes. Feel free to dispute or suggest amendments.
As we said, these figures are just TFSA guesses only and probably have no relationship to actual figures, but are for comparative purposes only.

Re: Salary Cap Tracker
pretty interesting topic ..Salary Cap.
there is one club out there that is throwing money, big money at a lot of players..
If all its pigeons come home to roost... there will be absolutely no way known it will be anywhere near the cap- 2 players on their own , from what Im told, would be commanding almost 1/3 of the cap by themselves.
