Where to buy Collectables Empty Where to buy Collectables

Post by Scrappy Wed Jul 31, 2013 11:21 am

I'm a collectableholic
Its become a hobby and a recreational past time, one I've enjoyed immensely over the years
There's endless ways to obtain collectables , so am devoting this thread on where collectables can be found and obtained.
I will also review some retailers and organisations

Will be pleased to hear if anyone else collects and where
I'm discovering new places as I've gone along over the years

I've more or less started collecting at the turn of this millenium
That's when my mini  recreational obsession started

I've even crossed paths with several TFSA posters in my collectable travels

Garage Sales
If one has the patience and semi expertise, one of the best ways to obtain inexpensive collectables is from Garage Sales
The golden rule is the early bird catches the gem
The best times to go to a GS is when they open the gates and driveways for us to swooooooooop
Best times are usually from 7:30am to 8:30am on Saturday Mornings
The competition is on at these times as the retail and market dealers are on the prowl as well as ME !
Another good time for bargain hunters is at the end of a garage sale from 2:00pm-5:00pm , some tired desperate people might sell you items for next to nothing.
The quality has usually disappeared by this time , but the things I have got at this time of the day has been amazing at times
If your looking for bulky and non bulky furniture , there are bargains late in the day

Take care
Bargains may not be bargains, with petrol expenditure
I drop in at GS sales on the way through to where ever
To drive around for lengths of time , diminishes the value of your purchases

I usually buy music, cricket, footy items
But I have bought other inexpensive items worth more in the retail world

At TheToss Of The Coin

Business card says
Buying and selling fine quality coins, banknotes
tokens, medallions,badges,cigarette + trade cards
stamps,football + cricket memorabilia, etc

The Proprietor is Gerry , a staunch parochial Centrals man
I doubt if you find a better shop for what I like to buy in the way of footy and cricket purchases
Has an excellent array of books, mags, collectables, and much more that I buy from there

Does anyone remember those Golden Fleece SANFL footy stickers from the 1960s
The ones that were titled
I LIKE ...
NORWOOD

GOLDEN FLEECE

And the SANFL coca cola bottle tops with the pictures of the SANFL footballers on the 1960s

Gerry has those items and more in stock

I'm not a coin man, but Gerry is , and is very much into his coin collections

I used to go to all the factories in the area that had drink vending machines[usually coca cola ones] and collect all the bottle tops from the bins
I reckon I had close to a 500 bottle tops collected

Try Cross Road Collectables, 441 Cross Road, Edwardstown.

A large premises, with a plethora of different things there that will keep most collectors happy. Prices are quite reasonable and a solid amount of football literature also.
