Singo has done it again coming out all guns a blazing by cutting of ties with trainer Gai Waterhouse after his champion mare More Joyous was well beaten yesterday. A sad ending to a long and successful partnership between the owner and the trainer.

i don't know the full story but it has a tie up with Tom Waterhouse (Gai's son) with something he said or perhaps something he did on his bookmaking site, a mate told me it had happened last night at the footy, but wasn't actually sure of the full details either, i'll make this educated guess that this was the last straw after the Cox Plate barrier draw fiasco

According to the media, Singo was unhappy that Tom was telling his mates that More Joyous had an injury and couldn't win but Gai didn't tell Singo. Singo was going to put $100,000 on it until he challenged Gai just before the race.

The thing I don't get is why the horse wasn't scratched if it had an injury and the way it performed suggested it was injured.

There were 3 short ones in this race
Here are the SPs

$3-00 More Joyous
$2-80 All To Hard
$4.40 Epaulette

Tom had a final price of $4-00 for Epualette
He bet the call on every other runner it appears he bet the call on all others at race time

More Joyous opened up with the Bookies at $2-50 and drifting out to $3-00

If there are deep investigations , the racing authorities have the power to see all of Toms bets on runners layed , to see any inordinate betting activity

Gai Waterhouse has rang Tom by phone about Toms alleged cant win conversations

"Nothing was said Mum
If anything I backed the horse , and it was a $300,000 difference to me
I was on More Joyous to win the race."

This what Gai had to say on the matter
" We had 2 vets look at her and they couldnt find anything amiss, the rider couldnt find anything amiss, and I couldnt find anything amiss."

Was Gai talking to a retired English Test Cricketer ?

Interesting little story this one.

Tommy referring to Gai as "Mum" in the professional sport that racing is, is a bad look. He needs to be better than that.

Singo needs to pull his head in now and then too, so all pretty interesting characters in this one.

Gai did say though that the horse had had some antiobiotics after being "hot in the neck" last week.

Does make one wonder, does little Tommy know more about "Mums" horses than he lets on? One would hope not.

I wonder the same thing Booney.
I'm not sure I'd be surprised at all.

Will be interesting to see what happens from here.

Singleton has said he was told by some mates that they heard Tom Waterhouse say that the horse couldn't win.

Is he going to name those "mates" ?

Also was reported that the horse was given the all clear to race after a vet check.
Present at that vet check was Singleton's vet as well as Singleton's racing manager.

Not that it matters but I didn't think More Joyous could win either, I backed the winner Very Happy Very Happy

Gai Waterhouse runners stats since Golden Slipper Day 6/4/2013
25 starters
5 won
20 lost

The 5 runners that won were all well supported in betting [all shorteners ?]
The 20 runners that lost all drifted on course and were beaten

On course fluctuations on the Gai Waterhouse runners that lost last Saturday
4.40-6.50 Hippopus
3.00-6.50 Blazing Snitzel
2.80-4.40 Major Conquest
4.40-5.50 Hydro
4.00-5.50 Magnetron
2.50-3.00 More Joyous

In the case of More Joyous the on course flucs do not show the whole story
More Joyous in pre- on course race betting with Bookmakers opened at $2-90 and shortened into $2-45
