From Westies website:

MARK MICKAN - GOODBYE & GOOD LUCK
15/01/2013 5:28:46 PM

It is a privilege to work full time in football and an even bigger privilege to work full time for the West Adelaide Football Club. It has therefore been with much consideration and contemplation that I have made the decision to resign from my position as the West Adelaide Football Club’s Football Operations Manager.

This position, which I have held for the last twelve months has been challenging and stimulating. 2012 was an exciting year for West Adelaide and I am grateful to the Club for the opportunity it has afforded me. The position by nature is very demanding in terms of time commitment and it is with this in mind that I have made my decision. I have a young family with whom I have a responsibility and a desire to spend more time, which quite simply meant that this decision had to be made in order for this to happen.

While I will remain in the role for the next 4 weeks, I would like to take this opportunity to thank WAFC President Paul Sperling and the whole WAFC Board, CEO Kym Russell, Senior Coach Andrew Collins, Talent Manager Andrew Marks, former COE Performance Manager Brad Fisher, Finance Administrator Sarah Hart, Marketing Manager Angela Jacka, Marketing and Communications Officer Stephanie Riese, Marketing and Events Officer Gina Cimarosti, former Receptionist Amie Mittiga, Functions Manager Danielle Milligan, Greg and Heather in the Kitchen, Venue Manager Tracey Kynoch, Groundsman Rod Harwood, Welfare Manager Bree Munro and all rounder Lee Harradine for their wonderful support during my time here.

Thank you to our Club sponsors/partners, members and supporters. It is an exciting time to be a part of this Club as it strives to go one better in 2013.

A big thank you to the match day support staff which includes assistant coaches, fitness staff, the stats team, time keepers, trainers, medical staff and the property team from all levels. An extra special thank you and congratulations to the players, not only for playing in the 2012 Grand Final, but for the hard work and professionalism that characterises this playing group.

The West Adelaide Football Club is well served by the quality of its people as well as by the quality of its players and 2013 looms as another very exciting year for the Club. I wish the West Adelaide Football Club and its people all the very best for 2013 and beyond.

Regards,
Mark Mickan

Thank you, Mark, for all you've done.

You're a West Adelaide legend, and a great bloke.

Will he go back to school teaching perhaps?

Reckon he comes across as one of the most genuine people in footy.

You need one for just about anything these days. Rolling Eyes

I don't see how teaching will be a step down in time commitment, working hours etc. Maybe he might get the occasional Saturday off. Mark Mickan letter to West fans 2343124779

So how many hours a week was West Adelaide Requiring of him?...

If he did become a School Teacher then he would likely have an increased amount of hours of work, they do their contact time at school in addition to lesson preparation time and marking work and so on, teaching is not a low hours profession.

Second question, will be be replaced?

I doubt he'll be replaced, given Westies' financial situation. I think it could be covered by staff reorganisation, the T&D Officer and Andrew Collins, but we'll have to wait and see.

I don't think we should be trying to analyse how many hours Mark will work. He's an intelligent bloke and will work out what he needs to do.
