Here's one for you all to ponder. Here's the names of 6 full forwards.

Geoff Kingston (West Torrens)
Eric Freeman (Port Adelaide)
Rick Vidovich (Central District)
Michael Coligan (Norwood)
Ken Whelan (Sturt)

Five of these have achieved something that the other hasn't. Who is the odd one out, and why?

They all played league footy except the Norwood bloke! Never heard of him

Waddayamean, the "Norwood bloke" is a mate of mine, and he most definitely DID play league footy. He was the SANFL League Leading Goalkicker in 1972.

Did all but one kick the ton at under-age level?

Nope, not what I'm looking for.

They've all kicked 10 goals in a match, except for Coligan?

Coligan kicked 10 against Sturt in 1970.

I don't know if this is what you're looking for AH, but all apart from Whelan topped the SANFL goalkicking without kicking 100 goals. Whelan only led the goalkicking when he kicked the ton.

No, but that's a good answer, I never thought of that

The answer I was after is a tad obscure so I'll give the answer.

The odd man out was Geoff Kingston. All the others won the SANFL Leading Goalkicking award at both league and reserves level.

Whelan was amazing, he booted 89 for the Sturt Reserves in 1971, another 106 in 1972 before being promoted to the league team. He then booted 107 in 1973 and 108 in 1974.

Can you imagine today having a lad kick 195 goals in 2 season in the Ressies before getting a league game?
