Are Centrals still fearsome?
Doug Robertson suggests that Central may no longer be the fearsome outfit all of us worried about for so long.
Are they still the team to beat, or are they now just another team fighting for the flag?

Will be still right up there !!
People each year write them off ... But they are only in 3rd gear ... They just know when to throw it in 4th at the right time

Centrals mid season slump gets earlier and earlier every year, they still seem to win the Premiership most times though anyway!

Well, I'll go out on a limb and say they will still be right up there, but won't be the dominant force they've been.
They'll win more than their fair share through determination and knowhow, though.

Centrals will be right in the mix thats for sure. Their injury list,Obst, Nash, Dunne, Hayes. Sutherland(Just returned), O'Sullivan
J. Gowans ( Just returned ) O'Hara & Jenner are very good players.
To me the team to beat is Norwood they have depth & they have recruited very very weel. ( The best in the comp), Cachia, Batasanis, Newton & Warren plus Murphy & Achee. They also will have Jonas all yr & may get Phillips & Pfeiffer to play a number of games
You can then add Brown, and Grigg( Currently playing ressies) and there defence is 1st class.
The only area of concern is the ruck

Central have won 1 game and still find themselves in 5th spot. A weakness in having a top 5 maybe, but it would suggest to me that they will probably win enough games to find themselves in a top 3 spot.
Once the finals come around, anyone in the top 3 would have a reasonable expectation to compete for the flag. I do think Central are on the decline so far as being a dominant force is concerned, but rumours of their death are greatly exaggerated.

No Bundy, I didn't say that, exactly
Like I stated in my FOOT-e TIMES SA article last week, until they are NOT participating in the finals, they just can't be considered to NOT be fearsome, in my opinion.
I think their reputation and record speaks for itself and whilst they may not have the same level of fear about them as they have done in the past (the reasons I feel this to be the case are in my article) there is still something about them.
Cheers,
BP

Re: Are Centrals still fearsome?
A better question would be: Are any of the other sides looking fearsome this year?
The answer to that question is an emphatic no.
So it follows that all Centrals need to do to claim their 10th flag is get their injury situation under control.

I'm taking the **** of course, but I don't see how anyone could write Centrals off when no other team has stamped their authority on the competition.Adelaide Hawk wrote:Captain Centrals wrote:So it follows that all Centrals need to do to claim their 10th flag is get their injury situation under control.

And I don't think I'm going out on a limb to say I believe Centrals will be a vastly improved side come finals time. It's happened for the last 12 years.

Another slow start to the campaign for Central...big deal...as Captain Centrals states, it has happened for the last 12 years.
It doesn't matter really what you do in the first 5-6 rounds, it's how you finish the season that counts.

I suppose the point is that for years we've always known, deep down, that the Dogs would just turn it on when it was neded and other sides wouldn't be able to stop it.
I don't think anyone is saying Central can't go top, but I doubt they're as good as they were, right now.

We're three weeks in and you're claiming Centrals are looking good because no one else has dominated?

I'm not sure that calling a poster a 'berk' advances your argument, topsy.
I'm sure you wouldn't mind just addressing the comment, not the poster.

No problems.
I'll disagree based solely on his or her specious reasoning next time.

I would say Norwood have stamped their authority on the league. Up to round 4 that is.
It depends why the question is being asked in the first place. If it is because they lost their opening two in a row, then I think it might be a bit overboard. Wait until they get some of their big guns back, and ask the same question in Rnd 23.

Far too early for me in the season to be giving a comment on that, I'll sit on the fence until about half way through the season thank you very much, the wheat should have been sorted out from the chaff by then.

Re: Are Centrals still fearsome?
In the past couple of seasons, we've seen that early season form ultimately counts for very little (if anything) at the end of the season. In 2010, Norwood were 0-4 before making the Grand Final (and nearly winning the flag). Last year we saw West start 5-1 before capitulating and missing the finals altogether.
While the early season form of sides like Centrals and the Eagles is a worry, it's not the end of the world, yet. It also means Norwood and Glenelg shouldn't be getting too excited about their encouraging early season form, yet, either.
The season is a marathon, not a race.

Three rounds in and you're claiming no one is looking fearsome? Massive judgement call followed up by a typically thin skinned pompous reply. Situation normal then.
Ignore away.
