#47 James Aish - Ironic Empty #47 James Aish - Ironic

Post by Groucho Sun Apr 01, 2012 1:31 pm

Anyone of my vintage must clearly have enjoyed the irony in seeing James Aish (nephew of Michael, I think) wearing number 47 for Norwood against Central last night.
Number 47 was worn with distinction by Trevor Roe for Central in the late 80's early 90's and he played many games against Michael Aish as his shadow and shut him down many times. Smile

I might add it is the only enjoyment I derived from yesterday.

Yeah, an interesting observation ‘Groucho’. Funny how numbers stick in our psyche.

There’s no arguing the fact that in later years Aishy would have preferred a different negator.
Although Michael Aish could never be completely shut down, Trevor Rowe certainly did his job better than most. Given Trevor’s talents, do you think The Doggies may have been better served back then if he had been allowed ‘free rein’ to concentrate on being a totally attacking player instead of a specialist tagger ?

I'd be interested to know who you feel might have been the best taggers from other clubs when it came to trying to 'harness' champions like Jonas, Vivian, Mobbs, Norsworthy and Platten.

I'll never forget the day Aish stood Bradley Ryan (I'm not sure but I think he was playing for West - not North - at the time).

Received a lot of close attention and finally snapped. Can't remember if he got a game or 2, or was let off under provocation.

Re James, he presumably will be selected top 5 in 2013 draft.

Yes, a couple of seasons at senior SANFL level, and I would imagine he'd go very early in the draft ... unfortunately. Seems all Norwood has done the past couple of years is provide talent to the AFL. Sad

Without having my records in front of me, I can think of 17 in the past 2-3 years. Anyone would think we'd dominated the competition for the past few years or something.

It's frustrating, as West supporters found a few years ago.

The quality of West's current AFL contingent is greater than any other SANFL team.

Bring me up to speed. Who are some of Westies' better players in the AFL?

I'm not a West supporter, but I'll play along and see who I can come up with.

2 obvious ones to start with Cooney and Hartlett.

I think that list proves my argument, AH?

It's fair to say though that several on the Norwood list have only started their AFL careers recently.

I don't have an argument, I was merely asking a question. I have little interest in the AFL except Hawthorn.
