2018 Broadcast Coverage Empty 2018 Broadcast Coverage

Post by Big Phil Fri Feb 02, 2018 7:12 pm

Broadcasting veteran Peter Walsh will be heavily involved with both the SANFLW and SANFL League Broadcast in season 2018, including the Digital Pass coverage.

Fans should look forward to some great initiatives and the quality of the broadcast coverage going to another level.

Suspect there will be a lot of new voices heard throughout the various coverage platforms.

New voices doesn't necessarily equate to quality though. There was one 'new voice' last season, whose name escapes me now, who was dreadful. I also heard talk that Chris Kendall, one of the better and more experienced callers, isn't involved at all - anyone know why?

shame if that is true, Chris would be the most professional of all the broadcasters that broadcast sanfl football, it is obvious he does his homework pre game more thoroughly than the rest

i like Peter Walsh as a commentator, his emotional calls on all sports are terrific, however he'll have to learn the players as i believe last year he was lost not knowing many players at all

I have to agree about Chris Kendall. Is there a good reason why he isn't calling? He's clearly better than most, is experienced and professional, is passionate about SANFL and it's a total mystery why he's not calling.

Having one o two new callers is fine, as everyone needs an opportunity, but new callers must be carefully selected. The new caller last year, referred to by F10, was absolutely dreadful. Perhaps he's a good caller of his original sport, but if people are paying for a professional service, we want professional callers.

Good luck to all those calling, but the paying public will be expecting a good service.

There will be major changes ... Stay Tuned. (John 11 43-44)

Expect to see different people doing different things to last year.

Agreed Chris Kendall would be a major asset to any broadcast as ABC TV discovered. If it was my call to put together a commentary team (which it is not) and if he was agreeable he would host a game every week.

Lee you keep asking this question on this forum.

Given the SANFL funds broadcasts
and
given SANFL clubs are at the least advised of what the broadcast arrangements are planned. (I was told it was a SANFL club vote that decided not to have LifeFM funded anymore last year)
and
given your position representing a SANFL club
...
have you asked that question to someone who might be able to answer it?

If not, and if you feel this way (as many of us do) ... please do so.

Wait ... does that mean there's no more LifeFM? Or that they had to fund themselves last year?

I got the Lazarus reference in your previous post but now I'm confused again!!!

As said previously, Phil, I'm only one of many who wonder why CK isn't calling.  It is a personal opinion, written on a forum.  I don't feel strongly enough about it to take it up as a personal crusade and seek out the decision makers, whoever they are.

What I will say though, is don't always believe everything people tell you.

No need to be so sensitive on the topic, mate, it makes people wonder even more   Smile

I've been wondering too - ridiculous if Chris isn't commentating when he's so much better than many others, has always come across as highly knowledgeable and delivers very well.

His knowledge of the SANFL is as good as it gets

Given what Peter Walsh said on radiotab this morning this could well be the case, he said after retiring from the abc he’s going to be doing the sanfl & the sanfl are moving in another direction with their broadcasts & have both girls & boys in the mix (obviously its good to see the girls get a chance) but if the best isn’t calling how can the others learn from him ?

seems like not much information about the digital pass available, strange so little publicity about something most places would want to promote, silence from key people

I believe the league and key stakeholders met last week and the finishing touches are being put on it this week.

I would expect to see some info come out about the 2018 Digital Pass in the next week or so.

Expect a number of commentary changes, with a few dropped from coverage and not required by new regime in order to bring new, less experienced voices.

I am pleased to announce that SANFL is back on radio this year with 1079 LIFE once again broadcasting SANFL games on a weekly basis.

Life have been SANFL broadcasters since 2002 even getting in one game last year when the Eagles brought them in to broadcast their Eagles Community Carnival Day.

The station will be broadcasting a game every week through the season and also plans to cover the state game and all finals. Radio veteran Doug Oakley will head the commentary team.

In addition the station will introduce SANFL ONE, a one hour pre-game show and 30 minute post game wrap, hosted by myself, meaning each game day broadcast will go for 4 hours.

Life's 1st game will be the Easter Monday clash between Norwood and Sturt at Coopers Stadium, SANFL One will start at 2pm with first bounce 3.10pm.

Great news...now I’ll have to go & get another hand held radio....I wonder whether Vision Australia Radio (used to be 5RPH) will be back on air too, any news on that PhilH ?

Any chance there could be a Thursday or Friday night show for the named teams & talk about the upcoming matches?

So I am open to ideas re the new pre-game show.
Normally it will run 1pm to 2pm before crossing to the broadcast game starting 2.10pm.

The show will be ONE hundred percent SANFL ... so what do you want included?

You’ve answered your own question...sanfl topics of the day

Seriously, talk to a representative from each club whether a player or coach for part of the preview & if at the end of a weekend perhaps reviews the earlier games of the weekend

That is the intention oldfella ... unless it has SANFL impact ... and then maybe it will the be chance to voice a SANFL perspective on the matter.

First thing I believe you need to do Phil & with no disrespect to any other broadcaster is to get Chris Kendall back in the broadcast box, he’s second to none in my opinion & brings professionalism to any broadcast he’s involved with
