S.A.C.A gets it wrong
as mentioned on the other thread I thought i'd go to the shield match today, well unbelievably they (council or A.O? But wearing those blue shirts) were charging $15.00 for car parking, I quizzed whether this was for the cricket & was told yes, I said its free entry & you guys are charging $15.00 no thanks & left, just another reason not to go, there were no street parking available in the close proximity to the ground, there was some a long way away but with gout in both my knees it would be way too painful to hobble from there & i hadn't any cash on me anyway......i went home & watched the test instead
first class cricket = FREE ENTRY
parking on grass = $15.00
i'm sorry but it doesn't make sense to me

The SACA have obviously expanded their business model, adding public relations to their portfolio
Having visited the Central Market, I had thought that I would drop in and watch a couple of hours of play on the opening day of the Sheffield Shield games, SA V NSW, at Adelaide Oval
Lovely day, free admission, what more could you ask for?
Upon entering the Northern car park, I was greeted by a parking official, who informed me the parking fee was $15
Free to enter the ground, but $15 to park !
Now that is a really good way to attract patrons to the Sheffield Shield cricket
I did a U-turn and departed

And don't forget we tax payers bailed SACA out of there debt of around $80 million dollars with the revamp of Adelaide Oval.
They treat people with contemp, shame on them.

Good news for Bayman
There will be no $15 car parking for the SA V WA match 1/2/2017

Re: S.A.C.A gets it wrong
i was talking to a lady who is a cricket nut & goes every day over the summer when the cricket is on whether it is national, state or big bash cricket & she knows i usually go when i'm not working, anyway in the conversation today she asked if i was going to the shield match this week & i said ''no i'm not paying $15.00 to park my car it is a joke, she replied ''it's $20.00 now''
so now we have
SHIELD CRICKET FREE ENTRY
CAR PARKING $20.00
IT'D BE CHEAPER TO SHARE A TAXI WITH A COUPLE OF MATES TO GO TO & FROM THE GROUND
NEVER EVER AGAIN FOR ME

Park just outside the gate on Pennington (?).

To walk from Pennington Terrace to the oval and back is difficult for anyone with a mobility issue, particularly up and down the hill.
People with leg injuries/gout in feet /osteoarthritis in knees would have some difficulty walking to and fro Pennington Terrace
Some incapacitated people need to park as close as possible to the gate, as you dont tred the undulation as much
Judging by the patrons that go to the SS games, that amounts to several
For some people
Walking on flat surfaces is manageable
Walking up and down hills and stairs can be a problem
Can you park all day on those Pennington Terrace car parks on week days ?
If its $20 to get in to the Adelaide Oval car park , this will likely impact attendances in the long term
Makes it very expensive for some pensioners
4 days = $80 car park fees
Bayman its closer and either $15 or $20 cheaper to attend Glenelg Oval games !
Have a SS game starting Friday against the Vics

Agree with you for patrons with mobility issues.
It does seem silly to charge so much for a Shield game. Should be free of perhaps $5.

When I was a lad they used to have $2.00 days on the Sunday and the oval would regularly have up to 5,000 spectators. It was good, room to stretch out, dad could watch the cricket while the kids had plenty of room to play their own match on the banks and there was enough people to create an atmosphere.

What great days they were, unfortunately those days are over and greed has set in.
These days both AFL teams that play there play in front of packed houses and the Big Bash is the same so nothing else really matters to SACA.
While entry to shield games are free to get charged $20 to park a car is way over the top.
As I have said before this is the organisation that had a debt of $80 million paid for by the SA taxpayer, no questions asked and no thankyou to us taxpayers

Isn't the car park run by the Adelaide council

as mentioned in the original post, the day i went (and turned around) the parking attendants had Adelaide Oval shirts on, however generally it would be the council.................my son loves his cricket because i'd take him with me every time i went since he was a baby, whether it was a shield or one day match i'd take him & by him going (the same as with the footy) he got his interest & passion for the game, this is one way of pushing people away from the game because they wouldn't be introduced to it early enough.....as for Lee's comment well yeah i could park up there & apart from serious gout in both knees most of the time i think it is a disgrace that they would charge anything, i'm not going again full stop, i'm happy enough to buy food & drinks at the high price but not $20.00 to park a car.......if or when interested i'll stay home & watch the live streaming & save on food & car parking & off course if people with kids are pushed away where are the future cricketers or cricket followers going to come from at the state level ?
if i went to a days shield cricket on Saturday with my son, it would roughly cost me this
car parking $20.00
2 hot dogs $12.00*
2 chips $10.00*
6 soft drinks $30.00*
roughly $70.00
* denotes approximately
i'll stay home out of the heat & watch some of it on live streaming & save $70.00 rather than spending $50.00 i'd be happy enough to spend of food & drinks

The logic of the car park price just doesn't stack up.
More to park than the spectacle you're going to?
Crazy.
I think Bayman's sentiments hold 100%.
It's like so many sports now, afl included. The boffins at the top making the decisions are so far removed from the average punter, they just don't even consider these angles.

Attended today
Enough street parks on Pennington Terrace which are free on weekends , where I parked
It was $15 for the Adelaide Oval car park
I left the ground just before 5:00pm
The parking attendant was still manning the car park
I was informed he would be there until 6:00pm

Re: S.A.C.A gets it wrong
I thought about going & parking in the street but decided with gout the pain wasn't worth it & watched it on the live streaming, when was the last time both Head & Ferguson got ducks?....I knew the Redbacks' were in trouble at 745am today when listening to the abcnews, "At stumps South Australia are in a strong position" etc I knew then they were in trouble, at stumps on day 2 Queensland lead by 152 runs with 6 wickets in hand, dare I say Queensland are now in a "strong position"

Agree, bayman, the ABC do that often. They have no idea about cricket on their news.
