SINGER BARNES WHERE ARE YOU?
As the author of a column HEROES OF THE HILL which appeares in BARRIER DAILY TRUTH every Wednesday, I am seeking the date of death and the cemetery in which his remains were laid of South Adelaide golden oldie CECIL CYRIL BARNES. CCB was a son of Thomas Barnes and his wife Henrietta Edna nee Elvidge (not Elridge as referred to in some sources) , who played 25 games and kicked 23 goals for SOUTH ADELAIDE IN 1921-22. Known as "Singer" to some and "Cingee" by others, Cecil was the younger brother of West Adelaide's 1922 Magarey Medallist Robert George Lavington/"Bobby" Barnes. Another brother, William Roy/"Billy" Barnes, played for North Adelaide. All three were born at Mt Barker, SA, and "big guns" in the Barrier Ranges Football Assn (now AFL Broken Hill) before making their mark in the SANFL.
