Re: Shane Birss
He has knee problems which caused him to miss several games earlier in the year.
He was hoping to overcome this, but it hasn't worked out, hence this being his last game.
I think he was also keen for a young player to take his spot.
Shane has been terrific for West and I hope he stays involved with the club.

Sunday's game will be his 85th and final game for the Bloods since coming over from The Western Bulldogs where he played 51 games and 20 games for St Kilda.
He has had a quiet year by his standards (knee problems) but has played some great games in his time at the club

Re: Shane Birss
We must not forget that when Shane first came to West Adelaide he suffered from depression and missed most of a season if not more, he would have played 100 plus games if not for that illness.
He overcame that and became a great servant for the club, a great bloke to boot and was always good for a laugh and a joke.
I wish him well in his retirement from league footy.

He was a great pick up for Westies and played some very good matches for the Bloods, will be missed, would have loved to have had him at the SAFC!

I would like to think so B&W but with season ending injuries to 4 senior players last Saturday it will make South being a short priced favourite for this game.

Reasonable player, but I think his greater story is overcoming a serious affliction and showing exemplary commitment to his mates and club. Well done.

Has been a very good recruit and player for us.
I think he would make a very good assistant coach. I hope it's with the
West Adelaide Footy Club
