Umpiring Error at Glenelg?
Reference has been made to the incident at Glenelg Oval last night where the Goal Umpire changed his decision well after play had gone from the kickout to West's forward line and awarded a goal.
Unless it has been changed, Rule 12.3.3 covers this situation. My reading of it is that once 'all clear' has been given, the decision can't be changed. When a decision is changed, the previous score has to be annulled, by the Goal Umpire crossing the flags.
If my interpretation is correct, then the Goal Umpire, Boundary Umpire who over-ruled and the Field Umpires all got the rule wrong.
I can only think the rule has been changed or my reading of it is wrong. If so, can someone post the changes?
If not, it is the schemozzle it looked like at the time.
Both Bayman and I have never seen it happen before.

On topic, though, sanflman, do you have a view on whether it was an error in law?

i was sitting on the half forward/half back line near the 50 metre arc (yes it's 47 metres) on the outer side & it was at least 25 metres back the other way, anyway whether it was a goal or not, it DID NOT cost West the match, West cost themselves more chances than that, but it was the most bizarre thing i've seen in footy

Certainly didn't cost West the game. They cost themselves the game with their lack of discipline.
Bayman, our recollections often let us down. I've just watched the Recovery Session which shows it and it was even deeper in our forward line than I thought. About 20-30 metres short of our 50, in fact, in front of the Gliderol sign there.
On the video, how Fielke wasn't awarded a mark or free kick in the last few minutes is a mystery.
Have a look at both.
Well done to the Bays, though, they were far more committed and deserved the win.

i think that is where i said it was & i'd call that the wing
as for Aaron Fielkes' mark, off course it was a mark, it is a mark 99% of the time, unfortunately for him this was that 1% time it wasn't, that's just footy & the luck that goes with it

Nothing to do with luck Bayman, just a terrible decision.

Has the umpire been dropped that awarded a 25m penalty to a Centrals player when their own trainer wandered across the mark?

Re: Umpiring Error at Glenelg?
You don't know for certain that the 25m penalty was as a result of that trainer. I heard in the Dogs rooms, post game, that it was given because of back-chat, that had been rife all day...BloodnTars wrote:Has the umpire been dropped that awarded a 25m penalty to a Centrals player when their own trainer wandered across the mark?
The umpire, Theron Filp, who paid that decision, officiated in the League game at Elizabeth yesterday and was actually the umpire who paid the free kick to Kyle Jenner, who then went back to kick the winner for the Dogs, on the siren !!!
