West v Port

Sunday 22 June
City Mazda Stadium

Reserves: 11:25am
League: 2:10pm

Last Week
West 7.7.39 lost to North 21.10.136 @ Prospect Oval
Port 18.16.124 d Eagles 15.11.101 @ Alberton Oval

Last Time They Met
Port 21.8.134 d West 11.10.76 @ Alberton Oval

Ladder Position
West 8th 3-7 46.08%
Port 1st 9-1 62.39%

West are on the slide, while Port are starting to somewhat return to the pack.  Will this be another horror week for West, or will they cause the upset of the season?

It's not on TV, or radio, for that matter...

Because it has been changed from the Friday night to Sunday, it misses out on being covered on radio...

It will, however, be audio streamed via the SANFL website, the same as the Sturt v Norwood game last weekend...

You would expect Port to win this easily, but taking the optimistic view for Westies, I hope the Bloods rebound from last week's meltdown, it rains like buggery and Port decide it's all too hard and 'a loss was the wake up call we had to have"..

West by somewhere between 3 and 4 points.

I was kind of hoping they'd leave that 'til next week. And decide it's not worth risking all their valuable livestock in the mud at Unley. Laughing

Between 3 and 4 points?  Very Happy  West by 3.1589  Laughing

Anyway, looks like this may be one of the bigger lopsided contests. Port get a couple back, West struggling to put any sort of system together for 4 quarters.

Lucky I don't, otherwise I'd be too stressed.

So were West very good today, were Port just bad or did they get all experimental?

I suspect Port might have beena bit complacent, but awest were the better team all day. Even at 1.5 to 5.1 into the wind at quarter time. West had dominated possession, but missed several gettable shots.

Chris Schmidt racked up 36 posessions, all except one from the top shelf. In a 10 minute spell in the second quarter, West kicked several goals. Their play into the wind in the third quarter was excellent and saw them lead by 22 points at one stage, before 3 quick goals to Port saw it tied at 3/4 time, but with West to come home with the breeze.

That they did, to come home with a comfortable win.

West certainly responded from last week's shocker and played some terrific football.

They were given no external help, with a measly 8 free kicks for the game and certainly no chance of getting a 50/50 decision all day.

The other factor was that West lost Michael Still to injury early and Adam Hartlett in the third quarter, leaving them with only one rotation for the rest of the game.

Don't mean to gloat, but I tipped 5 winners on the Thursday Night RPH SANFL Show Smile

Tipped West by 1 point, mainly as a point of difference to catch up on Grant Coffee, who was 4 ahead of me prior to this past round...

Having got 5/5 myself and Coff managing a paltry 1/5, I have now managed to lock the scores away Smile

On behalf of myself, and no doubt a few other fans hoping to see the Magpies finally drop a game, our thanks to the Bloods Wink

I've read in a few places that Port "only" had 12 AFL players in their side this week. Well, West "only" had none.
