Club Songs
We're now going to rate the club songs.
Putting bias aside, how do you rate them from 1 to 9.
(I rate West and Central about the same)

Re: Club Songs
As aggrieved as I am to say it, I reckon nothing beats the Tigerland song for a footy song.
Was at the "G" last year watching a lowish profile game Richmond v Brisbane on a Sunday Night. Richmond won in the end but not one fan was out of there until they had done 5 rounds of the "Tigerland" song.
Maybe the reason is they don't get to sing that often!

Does Sturt and Norwood get the same rating?
I believe we had it first, although that debate still rages I think.
However, would our 2009 rock anthem version complete with guitar solo in the middle appeal to get the points? Hmmm.......

Agree withe the Tigers song, I love hearing it...
I do like North Adelaide's as well, it is a somewhat catchy tune and I don't mind the Eagles song either...
Will do my ratings later, once I pull out an old CD that I have with all the club's songs on it and have a listen.
My favourite club song of all time was the old Central tune 'Pride of the Plains - Beware the Dogs are Coming'

Yes, I like Norths and as much as I hate to say it, Ports as well.
I think one of the worst ever was the Centrals - "This Time".

Hey, I was one of the young supporters (at the time) who was involved in the recording of that song
I think Roy Laird was involved in the writing of the lyrics for it. I didn't mind it, of course, but I do agree it wasn't one of their best songs...

Re: Club Songs
It wasn't the singing or the tune, BP, it was the words.
wasn't it something like...
"This time, more than any other time..."
Sounded very defeatist to me

Re: Club Songs
I guess that's why we became successful the moment we boned that song.
From a Central's perspective, Pride of the Plains was the best, but the one before that one wasn't too bad either. Also had the one in the 70's that sounded like a bunch of drunks rambling which was somewhat amusing

Re: Club Songs
No real contest here in this one for mine, I'm afraid.
Tigerland, easily.
(I'll just wait for the pack of Tigers fans, waving copies of "A Tiger For Me")
The only criticism I'd offer of the West version of their club song, is that it sounds somewhat like bearded men, leaning on a mantlepiece, cradling balloons of port thoughtfully. Needs more oomph.

I agree, CK.
I think West have recorded a new version, updating the one recorded in 1922

Re: Club Songs
Yeah West updated their song last season.
Interesting last year both Sturt and the Eagles reverted back to older versions of their club songs (although the newer version of the Eagles song was used at AAMI Stadium during the finals, and their premiership win).

I'm that bearded man at the mantelpiece C.K. and I don't mind a glass of port after a schnapps.
I preferred the lyrics when we were a happy team at Blood House.

I think I must be in a minority of one who liked the rock and roll version of "it's a Grand Old Flag".
At least the guitar solo allowed you a couple of sips of your beer. So it had at least one redeeming quality.

I like the North Adelaide club song the best because it isn't used by any other club. Most other club songs are used and have been used by AFL clubs for years.

I think North Ballarat also use the same tune as North Adelaide, but I agree that it's one of the best club songs going around.

Outside of the Eagles, North & Glenelg would be my favourites.
I hate the Centrals song, nothing to do with the song just the number of times I have had to hear it in October in recent years

Re: Club Songs
I think it should be a prerequisite of all SANFL clubs to have a fireplace somewhere in the bar, and a mantelpiece above it, for those who like leaning on it, pondering the game.
It's one part of country footy I really, really miss - clubs that had bonfires/fires in drums after games on a cold winter day, and standing around yarning to the blokes you had played with, and against, that day

On a tangent, anyone remember the old Woodville song? Found this whilst surfing ebay:

I have a CD of them all. I do wish Centrals would get another song. Too much like West Adelaide's. I prefer clubs getting their own song. Can someone put the words up to Woodville's song.

Having got one of those great CD's myself Strwab (and having listened to it on loop a few times over on country work trips !!!) I think the Eagles song goes like this: (Eagles fans, correct me where applicable, please !!)
Eagles Song:
'We're the Mighty Eagles and we always battle through
The Mighty Fighting Eagles, wearing gold and green blue,
Sound the siren, turn them loose and watch the feathers fly,
Then you'll see what we can doooooo
We're the Might flying Eagles, we're the Mighty flying Eagles,
We're the Mighty flying Eagles in gold and green and blue,
In gooolldd, aaand greeeen aaand bluuuuuueeee !!!
