SANFL at Adelaide Oval in 2014
Does anyone know what the situation is regarding the playing of SANFL matches on a Friday night at the redeveloped Adelaide Oval in 2014?
I got a look around at the Cricket on Wed night, its absolutley awesome what has been done and it would be a massive shame if there is no longer any SANFL footy at this venue any more!

Only finals i think Ben...West Adelaide play a Foxtel game at the Adelaide oval in their first round.

Finals more likely at suburban grounds. Don't be surprised if there are no SANFL matches, of any type, played at Adelaide Oval in 2014.

So, Grand Final to be played at AAMI again, then eartotheground?
Why no GF at Adelaide Oval?

BP, perhaps ettg is suggesting the second semi final winner gets a 'home' grand final, i couldn't see it happening but then again state matches went to suburban grounds in recent years

I thought it was stated that minor finals will be played at suburban grounds (highest finishing team) and the grand final to be played at the Adelaide Oval.
I would like to think we would get one game there after all our taxes payed for it.

Is this one of the rare occasions that eartotheground might be wrong?

Was hoping that Sturt might put back thier two home matches there after the trial of the Parade proved to be poor numbers, one might think that Friday night, Sturt vs Norwood or another rival of the club would do reasonably well in terms of crowd numbers, fans might actually enjoy the facilities that are easy to get to and better than the MCG - Docklands.

You would think the oval should be able to cope with 2 games a week on a reasonably regular basis. Happens at Etihad and MCG. Sanfl Friday Night and AFL Sat or Sun night.
Friday night sanfl games have been quite well attended on average over many years.
Or is it going to be too precious for sanfl now?

One of the issues would be the price of using Adelaide Oval ... I know that when the Eagles hosted Sturt a few years back on Friday Night we got an above average crowd of about 3,500 but it was revenue neutral when you took into account the extra expenses.
You would think Sturt would be most likely club to look at it but after only 3K turned up for the Port game at Norwood last year they would be wary.

Just because AO has had a $500M injection, does the price to use it have to be proportional to the main tenants?
The sanfl are in control of its use, and even at lower patronage, if it was worth turning on the lights 2 years ago, why is it not worth turning on the lights now?
Sure there are tenants who will command the bulk of the fee to be there, but why wouldn't you want the widest cross section of patrons going to the venue as possible.
There would be "marquee" games that will get better patronage, and perhaps they are the ones that should be scheduled there.
To shut the door off to the sanfl just consigns it further to the also-ran category.

North Adelaide and the Eagles as well as Sturt could use a night time venue also, Adelaide oval would be a good set up for all three of them. Not sure why it has to cost any different, its quite easy to shut off different areas if needed.
Its also worth pointing out that our taxes paid for all of this, so we should get a taste of it also in return. - Same goes for Adelaide United, the Sydney Bulldogs and whoever else wants to use it and invest into sport in SA.
