Adelaide Oval Empty Adelaide Oval

I'm putting this in the cricket thread given the season, but it applies to footy as well.

The AFC just posted a bunch of the latest pics of the Adelaide Oval this morning.

I have to say, it is looking absolutely spectacular.

The fit out of the new Southern stand in particular looks first class.

I think the architects have absolutely excelled in increasing the capacity of the ground, while still preserving it at one of the most beautiful in the country, if not the world.

The work they've done to keep the northern end mound, scoreboard, and view of the cathedral as a feature should be commended.

When you stack it up against some of the more recent ground redevelopments going around:
- MCG - it's still the 'G and we all love it but let's be honest, it's a huge and concrete and lacking character.
- Gabba - see above, even worse.
- Lords - that media centre is the most ridiculous thing ever.
- Old Trafford - who's idea was it to stick that big red box there?

This redevelopment has had it's critics, but I think it's the most significant development in Adelaide's CBD since the building of the Festival Centre. I can't wait to walk into that ground for the first time next year!
