Indoor Cricket
does anyone on here play Indoor Cricket ?
my lad & i filled in & played for a mate of Scrappys' team last night, i haven't played it for at least 14 years & thoroughly enjoyed it, after the match Scrappys' mate said ''thanks for helping out it is a 9.45pm game next week'' i said ''what are we permanent fill ins ?'' the answer was yes
my bowling = very ordinary but haven't bowled for years
my fielding = pretty good when the ball was coming at me but bouncing off the net was hard to read
my batting = very good, they didn't get me out at all & i made 46
i pulled up very stiff & sore today

Re: Indoor Cricket
obviously no one plays or has played it, off for game number 2 tonight as the ''permanent fill in'', expecting to be stiff & sore in the morning

Use to play, did for many years. The ICA at Stepney has just had a complete refit of courts and nets

Re: Indoor Cricket
I played indoor for many years when I lived in Adelaide. Used to get pretty serious at times!
I was generally pretty hopeless with the bat although I did improve the more I played and with some helpful tips from my teammates (I didn't play junior cricket so didn't know the basics).
By the end of my time I had developed into a very handy spin bowler though. The old left arm chinaman's were deadly!

I Dont play Indoor Cricket with Bayman and company
I declined for 3 reasons
1 I wanted a runner when batting
2 I wanted a sub fielder when the team was fielding
3 There is not enough room on the courts for both Bayman and myself

RB
I cant even remember the team I played for and what nights
I played on a roster basis, and played about half a season in the 70s
We did play in the South Parklands area
RB
Did they use tennis balls , and bowl underarms , when you played ?
Brodlach
Just contacted a member of Baymans mob, the early reports are the team was comprehensively beaten, and Bayman batted well again

Re: Indoor Cricket
A piece of advice if it helps.
In the immortal words of Clint Eastwood, "A man's got to know his limitations".
Especially old, fat, slow ones. Do any of these apply to you Bayman?
..........I gave up cricket in 1997 for the same reason.

I played indoor cricket for one season somewhere in Salisbury, too long ago to remember the exact whereabouts.

I played in Murray Bridge in the late 80's, didn't do too bad. Played again at the same venue a decade later and was useless

Re: Indoor Cricket
we lost the toss & was put in to bat, well the team won & won easily, i was in the opening batting partnership & we were going well & during the third over 'PING' the hamstring went so i couldn't go on my young fella who is also a 'permanent fill in' was selected by the opposition to bat & bowl to replace my part in the team, they were sadly mistaken because he got from memory 9/43 in 6 overs & in around 9 overs got 72....not bad for a 13 year old, not sure whether to continue playing when i'm right or watch from the sidelines, Scrappys' mate took a blinder of a one hand catch

Re: Indoor Cricket
If it was my mate ''The Don'' that took a blinder , it would be because he had his eyes shut ...
Hamstrings are an injury I suffered from late in my playing days
I git over them eventually with a pre match process
It involved back stretching, and leg stretching for several minutes
Then I would do 2 laps of the cricket oval , slowly increasing the tempo as I went along
Having a suspect back, and a BIG tummy , can be a cause of hammys
Remember the old rule about Hammys
When you think you have it completely right, take an extra week off
Also age does weary , eventually the Bradmans, Redandblacks and Scrappys knew their time was up

Great work by the young fella, fair effort.
You're right, Scrappy, you and I and the Don all knew when our time was up
