Re: Roy Laird
Not sure quit is the right choice of word...
I didn't hear it but apparently something was mentioned on 5AA about it?
Did anyone actually hear what was said and by who?
If Roy is not going to coach Central next year, it would more more accurately defined as retiring...
Only has 1 year deals at a time so I would say it is more that he is not renewing his services as coach next year, if in fact what 5AA said was true

Roy probably would have coached Central for another 10 years but his personal circumstances changed and he is at a point where coaching is now 3rd or 4th precedence to other personal matters...
He has a very young family and probably hasn't seen much of his kids grow up and he has recently taken ownership of a Real Estate business in the northern suburbs...
His priorities have changed and if he has in fact decided to not coach Central anymore, I certainly uderstand his reasoning why he wont go on. Regardless of what he does, he has been superb...

Re: Roy Laird
Even if the Dogs won the flag this year, Roy wasn't going on next year...
The club would have been made aware of this a while ago and have had time to find a new coach...
Nothing in it at all waddyamean, it is just the way it has ended up...

Re: Roy Laird
I think "retire" is a more appropirate term to use in this case.
Chris & James Gowans didn't quit the Bulldogs
James Allen didn't quit the Roosters
Jeremy Clayton didn't quit the Eagles
Justin Cicolella didn't quit the Magpies.
in all cases after some long and distinquished service they retired and I think the same language should apply to ROY LAIRD.
How many SANFL coaches have been at the same club continuously as the head coach for 10 seasons?
The term "quitting" has with it the negative connotation of not seeing out a commitment.
Roy Laird has fully seen out his current commitments but has decided not to commit further.
Good luck Roy in whatever the future holds, I will miss trying the think up a new question to ask you every year at the Grand Final Media Conference.

Roy Laird has had an amazing coaching career and he will be remembered as Centrals greatest coach for many many yrs to come.
I don't care what words are used he won't be there next yr.
Good luck to him in the future

Re: Roy Laird
Regardless of what you think it means waddyamean, Roy will finish up with a great record. With 7 flags, only 3 other coaches in the history of the League have won more. Roy is leaving not because it looks like it may be the beginning of the end for Central's dominance, but simply because his business and family means more to him than football.

waddayamean, you seem to have something on your mind but not prepared to say, would I be correct in that assumption?

Only that , like I said , we heard he was goinng , informed it was not official, then told it was fact ,now told it's not official.
If you can hang on for another 24 hours, I believe Roy was advising the club of his decision tomorrow...

Re: Roy Laird
That's good news for Central, and for Laird as well. Just goes to show what you hear these days is not necessarily close to the truth.
The one area I've always admired Laird is his sole focus on the success of the Central District Football Club, something I wish other coaches would learn.
