Darren Glass has been added to the coaching panel for next season.

Some good fresh blood coming into the club now. Going to be a very different set up next year that's for sure.

Correct.

Also news that Brodie Martin has been resigned for another year.

Not earth shattering news for some, but I rate the kid - not for elite talent which he will never have - but for his endeavour, work rate, and no fuss or fanfare attitude.

He's become a favourite whipping boy for the uneducated Adelaide fans unfortunately, but I get the impression Phil Walsh will place a lot of value in players of Brodie Martin's ilk.

Walsh talks "team" a lot, Martin plays "team" all the time.

Will be watching closely the AFC summer, I think the boys there might be in for a shock as far as training goes. I know for a fact that the Port boys relished the challenges put in front of them over the last two summers, led by Boak and Ebert ( no wondering why they are C and VC ) and if Walsh takes just a small portion of the Alberton summer program to Max Basheer Reserve the AFC boys will be under the pump.

Much could be said about Adelaides recent history of inconsistency, perhaps some of it relating to fitness levels and conditioning. Remember they lost Schwerdt to the Gold Coast and elevated one of the long standing "underlings" into the top fitness and conditioning role.

Yes, I think they will be pushed beyond anything they've experienced before.

Phil Walsh looks like a man who will be planning to break them in order to remake them.

On another note, a very insightful article on Fagan by the Rooch in the paper this morning:

http://www.adelaidenow.com.au/sport/afl/adelaide-football-club-chief-executive-andrew-fagan-wants-to-be-strongly-connected-with-the-19th-man/story-fnia3xzy-1227098651354

I've been waiting to hear these sorts of statements from the club for years. Exciting times.

I missed an article in yesterdays paper regarding Sanderson who has now returned from holidays and has had a chat on Melbourne radio.

I found these comments interesting, and it says a lot about the previous AFC regime:

Sanderson said his need to uphold Adelaide’s commercial agreements with sponsors had shifted “my focus from the core element of coaching the team”.

“The next generation (of players) crave a lot more attention than when I was playing,” Sanderson said. “You have to say no to a lot of commitments the club puts in front of you to focus on the core business — coaching the team.”

Commercial interests before on field success. The perfect summary of the past 15 years at the AFC.

Interesting, isn't it?

Caro Wilson on AA last night spoke of Brett Rattens reign at Carlton and how his focus shifted from football to anything and everything. Even so far as being involved in the monthly members e-newsletter and how he could help the club boost membership.

On the flip side, as you noted a little while back Ginge, Al Clarkson says he hasn't run a drill at training for some time, maybe 3 years!! So how the balance is at each club would be significantly different ( that balance dictated by the clubs playing list profile, the coaching network ) to the next and you're right Ginge, it's of no surprise to many of us that Sanderson was given plenty of corporate duties to cover on top of his primary role, coaching the club. Clearly the loss of Bailey would have impacted upon this, Bailey would have been more hands on while Sanderson was the "man manager" and got wheeled out for the opening of a new Camry at CMI Toyota.

Bada bing bada boom.

I hear Patty Steinfort ( sp ) the Head of High Performance at Adelaide is leaving to further his studies in the US.

Another key appointment for Adelaide to make, if this is correct.

I get the impression things will be very different under Fagan now though.

Unfortunately Sanderson won't be the beneficiary of that and I do have a fair amount of sympathy for his as he was IMO a victim of circumstance as much as poor methods - but I've always complained about the Club not having to stones to make the big calls, so I'm not about to criticise them now they are.

Very happy that the AFC are finally ripping some band aids off.

Adelaide release their new clash guernsey:

Pretty good effort I think.

Let's be honest, not much you can do with a guernsey that needs to stay predominantly white.

I've never been one who gets hung up on uniforms, pre-game entertainment and the like. I get pretty tired of Adelaide fans bleating about that sort of **** all the time, it's all of zero consequence IMO.

As long as they are winning they can wear potato sacks and play the Wiggles after every goal for all I care.

Phil Walsh took his first training session today. Cut a fairly imposing figure on the training track looking at the photos.

Interesting to see he's introduced ear pieces for communication between coaches during training, apparently something done at Port Adelaide this season.

I've watched Port train quite a bit Ginge, one thing I did notice that was different from years gone by, this year anyway, was the manner in which the coaching staff spread out over the ground during training sessions, especially during simulated match practice.

Watching Hinkley waving and talking, I was wondering what the hell he was doing.....until I saw Tyson Edwards ( who often get involved in the match simulation stuff ) following a couple of players around, directing them across half back and then Ken gave him a thumbs up, as in, exactly what I wanted.

Makes sense, better than them all standing in a huddle and yelling at players across the field.

A good early analysis on Adelaide's chances next season by David King:

Certainly echoes my thoughts.

The last time Port made the GF I went underground. Literally.

Was holidaying down in the SE and the wife and I decided to take a tour of the Naracoorte Caves, rather than watch it.

Needless to say we were pleasantly surprised when we turned on the radio in the car afterwards to discover Geelong were 60+ points up 10 minutes before half time!
