2019 Mid-Season AFL Draft

SANFL clubs hit hard at the mid-season draft.

South lose Michael Knoll to Sydney at pick 4.

Glenelg lose Lachlan Hosie to North Melbourne at pick 5.

West lose Will Snelling to Essendon at pick 7 and John Noble to Collingwood at pick 14.

Port opt to draft Magpies skipper Cam Sutcliffe at pick 9.

Big blows to all clubs in the middle of the SANFL season.

Port dont lose out if he doesnt make their AFL side he stays with the Magpies.Unfair on the other clubs who lose players

Personally thought Foote would’ve got drafted

Outside of the National draft this year we have lost 3 players- all 200cm+ to AFL clubs.
Keegan Brooksby - WCE
Haydn McLean - SYD
Michael Knoll - SYD

but it gets better... we get zero compensation. The SANFL have us and West on a deduced Salary cap. The payments we've made to Knoll & McLean will come out of whats left of our diminutive salary cap as well.

And ho wmany will plasy an afl game? Including those coming from WAFL / VFL / NEAFL etc. Not too many I would think.

I really think penalties for salary cap breaches are a complete and utter waste of time when the AFL and SANFL can orchestrate these scenarios occuring that have so much influence over clubs themselves.

Its a bit like the Monty Python Knight sketch where he gets his appendages sliced off............come back here you coward and I'll bite you to death!

It's ridiculous. Hosie has swapped a chance to play in a Grand Final with the Tigers to playing a season with North Melbourne's VFL side that are second bottom. The club loses a vital forward and gets zero in return.

Hard to find a winner in all this.

In fairness, he's guaranteed $50k and $20k if he is dropped off the list. What would he be on at the Bay? Plus more importantly he has a chance at a long term AFL career. You may be ahead of yourself with the GF statement.
