Round 3 - South v Sturt at Noarlunga
This is shaping up as an interesting game for the first Good Friday clash.
We'll have a detailed preview up soon, but what do you think?

I'm going to go Sturt by less than a goal.

That has to be a straight kick because you cannot win by less than a point.

Sturt's record at Noarlunga isn't good, so we would logically start as underdogs. At this stage of the season it's very much one game at a time, for all clubs. It looks like being a very even competition this year. On the bigger ground we'll need to stick to the game plan of going long and direct, to give our forwards the best chance to kick a winning score.

I think it will be interesting to see how Sturt come out to play for this game. Last year especially if we had a win or a big win you could bet that the next week we would not be focused and get thumped, Norman often said that "this group is so far ahead of themselves it's not funny". After a solid pre season and a great first up win against an in form Magpies you could almost expect that the Sturt of old will come out against South and just expect everything to happen and lose. While it will take a while for Seamus to firmly imprint his style on the players and erase any previous habits or attitudes I think this may give Sturt supporters and Maloney just how far we have come over the summer. We confronted and dug deep when facing our first big challenge for the season, now to face an inform South and some of our own demons.

for some teams a draw is as good as a win

I think Sturt surprised a few people last week, including me, I thought Port’s new form would prevail.
South keep improving under Ron Fuller, but I can’t see the Panthers getting over the Blues this week.

Line ball for me. Agree with other posts that Sturt must be direct and in a kicking frame of mind. Regardless of the result, I'm really looking forward to the game. Bravo Panthers for taking the plunge. I second the motion that South be allowed to retain the Good Friday fixture until they decide otherwise!

If other results go the right way, the winner of this would be sitting top of the table. So I'll go for a draw

That's exactly what happened in round 1 two years ago.

Sturt side stacked with Crows AFL players will take it out.
Too much experience for us.

Re: Round 3 - South v Sturt at Noarlunga
Sturt voted against Good Friday footy and didn't want this game.
SANFL cutely interpreted it as not wanting a home game on Good Friday.
I guess the majority must have wanted footy on this day.
Apparently the Bays wanted it but didn't get it.
Religion or not, 5pm at Noarlunga doesn't seem a fair dinkum way to promote it to me either. For those who do take the holiday intent seriously and attend church at 3pm, are you doing them any favours programming it at that time?
For us the first 4 rounds programming sucks.
- Bye
- Home v Port - fair enough
- Good Friday at Noarlunga
- Bye.
Not helpful at all to the membership push and debt demolition campaign.
Yeah I'm whinging, but why not give it to clubs that wanted it and make it a sensible time slot?

100% correct
5pm seems a silly time to start, i haven't a problem with Good friday footy but i'd like to think the players from all teams were spoken too, to ascertain their feelings & thoughts & lets face some facts, on friday night i can go to entertainment venues such as the movies, pub etc & to me there is no difference in those or for the footy in my book

So as McIntyre, Jaensch and Martin (throw in Riley if you want) are all Sturt juniors or drafted by the club, just who are we stacked with from Adelaide exactly.Southee wrote: Sturt side stacked with Crows AFL players will take it out.

Just because they were originally yours doesn't negate the fact that they are now Adelaide players who are fit for AFL level football.
By my reading Southee was just making a point, not an accusation.

Thanks Gingernuts.....that was all I was making a "point".
We are a side with alot less experience than Sturt so I think we will go as the underdogs in this game.

The only reason I can see for not having footy on Good Friday would be to stop comments on the various footy forums about teams getting crucified...

I just wonder whether any South or Sturt supporter will say they got crucified after the game, off course if it was a 3 day game we could have a great comeback
