Re: Commentary commentary
The only non-televised game in Round 17A is North Adelaide v Glenelg on Sunday 5 August so assume that'll be LifeFM Game of the Day.
Round 17B, the only non-TV games are the top-five South v Sturt clash and the Eagles v Adelaide carnival game. Will you broadcast the carnival game again, or continue the trend of not airing Adelaide?
Round 18, take away the Fri night game and two TV games, you're left with Eagles v South and Glenelg v Adelaide. Eags again as it'll be probably a top-three clash, or go with the second bottom v bottom?
Early indications is every match of Round 19 will be played at 2.10pm on Saturday as the Crows are likely to play Sunday afternoon and Port likely to play Friday or Saturday night. Not sure if there's going to be a TV game as there will already have been 18 H&A televised matches by this point.

Hi Scott,
Nothing locked in yet but you are correct re North v Glenelg and I believe 1079 Life will continue the tradition of being a part of the Eagles Carnival Day event.
If it was me Rd 18 would be Eagles v South and Rd 19 South v Norwood but they are personal thoughts only.
This would mean Life have broadcast from every ground this season and broadcast every team except Adelaide at least 3 times.

For those that think that some SANFL commentators struggle, check out this effort in the AIHL yesterday between Newcastle and Adelaide. I don't think you'd find a worse commentary team...pretty much anywhere...
Game starts about 35 minutes into the clip.

Re: Commentary commentary
I called some Ice Hockey in 2016, an interstate series carnival called the Brown Trophy held at the Adelaide Ice Arena which needed callers during working hours.
It is an amazing game to commentate, like calling pinball, you simply can't call everything, you cant look down to make a note during play ... it is just frantic.
Often you call a footy game at different speeds depending on flow of game, Ice Hockey was fast forward between the whistles, needs to be called with sense of urgency.
Was a huge learning curve, a sport I knew so little about when I got the call 2 weeks out ... but it was telecast on C44 and I was paired with an "expert" so I got to play the dumb first time viewer asking the basic questions.
My only issue .. every sport I have called for 30+ years has had a ball, this had a puck. Alas I found my brain sub-conciously inserted "ball" from time to time when I transitioning from one thought to the other.
Got to call one nice goal about 9.35 in.

Good call of the South v West game by Don Cooper and Krissie Steen. They were focussed, enthusiastic and even quite witty at times.

Phil, I noticed on your PA for South at the breaks, you only gave the South goalkickers and disposals. I understand it's a South home game, but have you considered giving the opposition info also? The other half of the crowd would appreciate that.

No I have not been on South PA since 2007 ... Had to fill in one game and accidentally played the after goal Panther "Roar" in the middle of play. Not a good career move.

Re: Commentary commentary
Really good call of the West v Central game on the digital pass. I really appreciate the focus being on the game at all times, and the lack of attempts at being comedians, which tends to put the focus on the caller rather than the action. Although Phil did at one stage call Kenny Karpany "Colin Karpany" which would have been pretty funny if it was deliberate.

I agree. I watched the second and last quarters. Big Phil and John Nankivell were excellent. Knowing that his Doggies season was perhaps crushed in that last quarter, Phil was still totally professional.
I think the general standard of the streaming service has improved this year.

It wasn't my intention calling Ken Karpany, Colin but have to confess that is the second time I've done it.
I was, and still am, a big Col'n Carpenter fan and for some silly reason, I think of him when calling Kenneth.

Re: Commentary commentary
Rd 18 will be SANFL "Retro" Round
Pleased to say we have very special guest, Dennis Browne doing special comments for 1079 Life's broadcast of Eagles v South from Maughan Thiem Hyundai Oval, Woodville.
This will make it 50 consecutive seasons DB has been involved in SANFL Broadcasting.
The first game I did play by play was with DB in 2004 (phone line at Noarlunga failed, we shared a mobile.)
He has been a great mentor to many, will be a fun afternoon.
