Glenelg v West at Glenelg
The Tigers are set to roar for the faithful as they celebrate lighting up time.
West are on a high after Round 1.
Can they overcome the emotion of the occasion?

the emotion of the night will be enough for the bays to get over the line, will West flood or attack ? hopefully they attack & make it a spectacle with high scoring free flowing attacking footy from both teams, Hender, Kirkby & Kirk to kick at least 3 each for the home team.....should be a beauty

I've rarely seen a game, even at junior level, for a long time where both sides haven't folded back in numbers if they don't have the footy.
West certainly didn't 'flood' in the first half of last season, then they did when the lost several of their best plsyers. I think it's just a case of who's got the footy.
There's no instruction to flood.

West seem to do well under lights. I think they will spoil the Bays party and win by a narrow 6-10 points

I have no idea about this one. Wouldn't be surprised by the winner, nor the margin. When in doubt, go for the home side ... Glenelg by 5 points.

Re: Glenelg v West at Glenelg
Glenelg has been a bad ground for Westies in recent years.
They've lost by a free kick to Ruory Kirkby a couple of seasons ago, were playing over the top of the Bays with the wind before half-time last year before several free kicks cost them goals and the game last year. Apart from those games, they've been towelled up comprehensively on several occasions there recently.
On the other hand, Glenelg rocked up at City Mazda late in the year with a very young side and won against the odds in a brave effort, so there should be nothing in this one.
West look the more experienced and settled side and appear to have found a full-back and a full-forward of quality with Tippett and Still, although that's based on just one game.
I remember West's first game under lights when they smashed North and there's no doubt the emotion of playing such a game in front of a big crowd is a huge morale booster.
I'll wait for Glenelg's side before tipping.

Hard one to pick, no real reason, but I think Glenelg, just. 8 points.

In the West v. Glenelg game I saw last year the players who caused us most trouble were Cranston, Chad Cornes, Ben Kennedy and McMahon. Since none of them will be playing I'm inclined to think we should notch a win. And honestly, despite the filip they'll get from the debut night game, if we can't beat a mid-table side that has lost half its starting 21 from last year we are going backwards.

& you ran where last year ?
if i use your logic i'd say ''they ran near bottom so they couldn't improve that much to win this week''
however every game & more so every year is different
ps, i'm happy to have a punt on glenelg if the bookies put up a good price

My post wasn't meant as a slight on the bays bayman, just making the point that after their massive personnel losses Glenelg are a team we have to beat if we are going to get anywhere this year.

Re: Glenelg v West at Glenelg
I'm expecting Glenelg to win, but then I always do
I'll be happy with a 4-5 goal win to celebrate Night Footy at The Bay
Lewis Hender and Ruory Kirkby up forward seem to be working well so far.
Curran, Mulesy & Rudolph will have good support back there with a solid group of defenders who have played some good footy together coming up through the grades. I think Max Proud may debut.
Lachy Button will enjoy his return to the Bay, and Ty Allen will lead from the front like he always does, with Andrew Bradley providing leadership support as well.
I'm also expecting Davenport to make his debut with style
As for Westies - Webby can step up and kick a few just to keep me happy as well
I'm biased, and don't try to hide it

not a bad looking West team at all, should make for a great contest
f9, with your other comment i'd suggest at top 4 players that left would be picked to play (if fit) this week so it isn't a MASSive turnover in that sense, the players i'd say that would be picked that are gone would be Murphy, Kane, Cranston & the fourth i'll have to get back to you with as my minds gone blank (yep getting old mate)

Wouldn't Shaw travel to the Gold Coast as back up to Rutten if he doesn't come up?

I thought Shaw would be the travelling emergency as well but it seems Sam Kerridge is the first listed emergency for the Crows and is not named in either Sturt's League or Reserves side so it seems he may be flying up to the Gold Coast and as 85WAGY mentioned, Sam Shaw will front for the Bays, which will be a handy inclusion for them.

Shaw or Wright aren't named for their respective SANFL sides either so they could all be going up there.
Being named first on the emergency list means stuff all.
No big deal anyway if he plays, as he is still young and the bays shouldn't be relying on him.

Yeah, but from what I have been told, Wright and Shaw have been advised by the Crows they will be playing in the SANFL so that leaves Kerridge as the Travelling Emergency.

That being said, it seems what I was told doesn't seem to be on the money, according to AdelaideNow...
http://www.adelaidenow.com.au/sport/afl/no-backup-for-crows-fullback-ben-rutten/story-e6freck3-1226314193554
ADELAIDE showed full confidence in fullback Ben Rutten on Friday by leaving for the Gold Coast without a tall defender as a back-up.
The Crows opted to take livewire Matthew Wright as their travelling emergency.
Rutten, who has not played in the pre-season because of foot surgery, will have his last workout ahead of the game on Friday afternoon when the
Crows train at Metricon Stadium.
Untried key defender Sam Shaw remains on the three-man emergency list and in Adelaide.
The other emergencies are Wright and un-blooded Sam Kerridge.
Crows open their premiership season against the Suns at 4.15pm Saturday
