Sturt v Port at Unley
Will the irresistible form of the Magpies prevail?
Sturt have a great midfield. Is it enough to win at home?

I've watched Port for the last 2 weeks, i'd suggest Sturt would have to play scintillating footy to win, Port comfortably by say 7 or 8 goals for mine

Will certainly be a tough ask. Whilst I obviously hope they win (and think they can), to stay within 5 goals of them would be a respectable effort.
Should be a great game. Pity it's the televised match as this will no doubt affect the crowd...

Sturt could potentially have 6 or 7 AFL players available for this game. Whether that will be a bonus or a distraction remains to be seen of course.Trial form means nothing and Port have comprehensively won the only real game so far, but we're quietly confident.

Haven't seen Port yet, so it's hard to know how much they've improved. Sturt looked sharp in the midfield against Norwood last week and provided their forwards with plenty of ball.
The real weakness I see for Sturt is height in defence, and Port seem to have some talented talls in the forward line. For this reason, Port by 3 goals.

Port will be far too strong with the big men playing a role in thumping the Blues.
Port easy.

This will be the interesting one for me. I've taken Port to win the Premiership at $6.50. I don 't expect them to do so but they will come in for me to trade out for a nice profit.

I take it the Maggies are the Hawthorn/Geelong/Collingwood of the SANFL and my side is GWS. We'll see.

Re: Sturt v Port at Unley
very hard to guage this game, Port obviously have improved on last years form and have recruited quite well, their thumping of the Premiers last week is testament to that. It would be easy to dismiss Sturt but if anyone bases that on last year then it'd be foolish, eveyone also seems to overlook some very good recruiting early on and some solid trial game efforts. I at least don't think that it will be the walkover everyone expects.

Like the look of Port this year. They should win a lot more games. 2 in a row to start the season. Port by 24 points.

We will indeed...but, Port have been very convincing in trials and in the first Round of the season proper whilst Sturt are yet to have a "proper" hit out.
I expect Sturt to be competitive this year but competitive could mean 6th with 9 wins or 9th with 6 wins.

I wouldn't under-rate Sturt.
They have their weaknesses, but their midfield rotations are very strong and their forwards will get plenty of chances.
Their defence looks a bit vulnerable.

Agreed, Sturt will have a better year than a lot of people think. I don't think they will make the five but I think they will go close. To early to judge Port in my opinion, I think people are rating them a bit to high.
I'm going to tip Sturt for this one.

My first post and this site looks good , I am from SA Footy and sick of their double standards . I just hope this site doesn't get infiltrated by certain posters who think it's their personal blog site.

Very much liked the look of Sturt today, did not drop their heads all day and kept coming back at Port. Looks like the SANFL is off to a pretty good season already with sides like Sturt having a go when many "experts" tipped them otherwise!

Yes, I saw Sturt last week in a trial and they looked very slick to me. I only went for Port because people kept telling me they were the real deal

Port did not do a great deal wrong today, high scoring game and got themselves well back into it in the last 1/4 when it counted.
The only criticism I could make is that their main Ruckman Micklejohn seemed to have an off day and seemed to have little impact and cost them several centre clearances. Strange as he was amongst their better players last season, so may have been carrying an injury today?

Re: Sturt v Port at Unley
From a Sturt perspective, I was especially pleased with the way the lads fought back after losing the lead early the last quarter. Confirms the new spirit most of us sense around the club. Also a match winning move by Seamus, switching Duldig to CHF and Cahill to the goal front in the last. Make no mistake, Port are a good side who will be about the place this year. Beating them first up was a top effort. They put us under a lot of pressure and there were times when we forgot the game plan and reverted to over using the ball. But we were able to regain our composure and get back on track when the game was in the balance. Sturt got on top in the midfield and won several clean centre breaks in the last 10 minutes or so, which really created the winning scoring chances. In fact the whole game really fluctuated around who controlled the midfield at different stages. And well done to Paul Cahill for a couple of real pressure goals at the end. He didn't have a big day overall, but the way he finished off when it was all on the line was very impressive. McIntyre was sensational, Duldig worked hard for his goals, Brodie Martin, Riley, Thomson, McLeay, Kurtze, were all strong contributors. Early days, but a very encouraging performance.
