Re: 2017 Broadcasting
Bottom line, it's not good enough. He sounds like he's never watched a game of football before, let alone called one. If Maney and Kendall are/were available and aren't being used, you've got to ask why.

Not sure he is rostered on for one, this weekend?
Chris has been rostered on this weekend to call the South v Glenelg game at Gliderol Stadium, Lee.
He's doing the game with former Glenelg and South Adelaide player Jon Symonds.
Myself and Phil Herden are calling the Dogs v Magpies game at Elizabeth.
John Nankivell and Don Cooper are at City Mazda for West v Crows.
And Peter Walsh and Doug Oakley are calling Eagles v Sturt.

I watched the last quarter of West's game today and thought the commentary from John Nankivell and Don Cooper was excellent, Well done, boys.

Re: 2017 Broadcasting
Typically, I absolutely love the live stream and hate to be critical of things I know I probably can't do better.
But since I've forked out money for a 30-day Sturt digital pass to watch today's Eagles-Sturt match, I expect to get a product that makes that investment worth it.
Peter Walsh & Doug Oakley are today's commentators. I have met Doug and he is a wonderful bloke with a voice made for radio, but between the two, they just can't identify any player who's number isn't facing them.
And Walshy needs to remember that he's also commentating for people only listening via the app, so he can't afford to crap on for 90 seconds during live play about some irrelevant story because he doesn't know six players in a handball chain because the listener has no idea where the ball is.
There's a special comments person who does seem to have good understanding of the tactics of the game and is articulating play quite well, but being the relative of a Sturt player, is borderline barracking and talking about Sturt players on a first-name basis. But I guess at least telling us a player's first name is better than not saying the player's name at all!
Overall, there are many quality SANFL commentators who have a fantastic understanding and knowledge of the SANFL and clearly spend a huge amount of time outside of the broadcast with research ahead of their matches on the weekend to provide the audience with the respect they deserve in commentating for them. So it's disappointing when there's one match on for the day and this is where we're at.

Yeah the clown duo had to put up with them at the parade earlier in the year...they just ramble on about boring crap that no one wants to know about and don't call the game..i was watching the stream so could see what was going on but if you had to listen to it you'd have no idea...get these clowns off the livestream

Oh ok, sorry i miss read what you meant...as for Peter ''the Hawaiian shirt wearing'' Walsh i quite like his flamboyant style & sometimes over the top commentating, he wouldn't have a feel or a huge understanding of the sanfl or their players but i'm sure he'll be a great asset after several matches

He called it with John Nankivell.
He then did the Legs v Crows game at The Parade as well with Phil Herden.

Who is Hayes ? As I can't work out who you mean
Have never watched the tv broadcast as I go to as many games as I can, so I can't comment on the quality but would imagine it'd be pretty good

The ex Central, West and Port Adelaide player.

The Digital Pass and SANFL Radio commentary.First 21 wrote:My fault as I assumed this was a TV discussion . What is the other commentary being discussed as the radio is no longer ?
It's not just the TV games that get broadcast.

Re: 2017 Broadcasting
Credit where credit is due.
I listenned to last half of south v west game on radio today due to illhealth and felt that the call was excelent of a tight hard close game that imo would not have been easy to call --- at all times i found i knew where the ball was, who had it and most omportantly what was happenning.
Well done guys

I note the audio doesn't cut out when you minimise the app on the phone anymore.
Glad this issue has been fixed.

Re: 2017 Broadcasting
seems like this project really short of callers, just seems the 4 or 5 most weeks, would be good to have some different voices who know the league, must be more around surely.
