hospital flaws

i know a lady who broke her ankle almost 2 years ago, since then it has been operations ever since as (in my opinion) its been trial & error ever since the ankle was broken & earlier this week they amputated about half the leg off, which she objected to, after visiting the hospital late last week, she had to go back hours later as she all of a sudden had a lump & then it was growing at a rapid rate apparently she caught a ''superbug'' & she would have died in 24-48 hours without the amputation...........i feel for her (she just wants to die) & the family so much but my main question is................

How in 2016 does a broken ankle end up being a leg amputation ?

Not the time but perhaps the family needs a lawyer I recall i think you may sign a waiver but it wouldn't hurt to ask .
My personal experiences with doctors and operations goes back a few years . The only hospital I went under the knife so far that is only seemed interested on operating on the elderly .
But that was awhile ago .
Get that ladies family to seek a lawyer just in case

Definitely sign waivers for operations, however there is also a duty of care...
Bit early to suggest a lawyer but will be in due course, I'll wait for the trauma to subside

I got referred to the Lyell Mc ED last night by my GP.  After waiting about 15 minutes for a triage to actually front up to the counter, and then having a nurse do the token checks in the waiting room I ended up waiting close to 5 hours to be taken in.

A couple of hours later my pain is getting worse.  Mum flags a nurse down to see if they can get me some pain relief.  45 minutes later, mum gets the triage nurse to check me again.

'What's your pain out of 10'
'8'
'Alright I'll get some Panadol for you'

Both Mum and I roll our eyes -  I could've done that at home!

I have no idea how the priority system works but how someone with a moon boot, and someone with a blood nose from a road rage incident gets higher priority over numerous patients advising they're in some decent pain is beyond me.

And then the absolute moron of a doctor I copped asked why I waited so long to come to ED.  It took all my remaining strength to remind him that I went to my GP at 4:30pm (it was the earliest they could get me in when I phoned at 9:00am), and I'd been waiting at the hospital since 5:00pm (by now it was after 10:00pm).

I get why people lose their **** in ED's now.

Two medical reasons I've gone to an ED
1 My head pain after my injury got really bad the week leading up to Xmas 2015 my rehab therapists were all on Xmas leave . I called a phone number I was given by a friend on Facebook .
Medical place operator said what's wrong said go to ED or GP.
I explained the pain they didn't want me to sit down but lay down my eye spins were so bad I coujdnt lay down . I got a cat scan they pulled every joint poked my guts
Tried to tell me I had gastro and a headache
They made me lay down my eyes started to roll .
I was sat up in a chair told I was being sent home .
They gave me a drug one and half times the strength of morphine .
I took it three times over two days it took the pain away for an hour but made me a zombie .
Later I had four doctors tell me twice don't take it then a specialist said take it but you will be addicted to morphine . One awful rehab doctor after two had said you can't take it said no you must take it I said what if I became addicted to morphine his answer So .
2 My next medical visit I had non stop head or eye spins for four hours then 3 more times .
All I wished to do was rest my kids said you can't go to therapy . Called them and yes that was a Monday after I had Friday off with head pain that stopped on the Saturday.
Under their non medical direction I was told or ordered to either go to any GP or emergency .
Called up my GP explained what was going on and what I was told . They couldn't fit me in until 4 pm suggested emergency .
I was dropped off me and one other was waiting .
I was there for a full hour
Emergency nurse took my BP ECG sugars all normal
Emergency doctor came in and started on me why would you come here and I honestly said the rehabilitations name they told me to come .
He checked me out he couldn't understand why I came after it ended I said wasn't told to come in when it was non stop . He gave me a letter to give my GP said he'd send the GP one and was going on and on I shouldn't have been there I should be seeing an ENT specialist anyway I didn't need to be at the hospital.
Nice as pie I said well i see the ENT at the hospital
He also looked into my injured ear that's got one of my fractures oh you have nerve damage assured me he write a letter to the ENT department.
Also he told me there no reason why I was not at therapy told me at 11.30 am to go to therapy now .
I politely said it's 11. 30 am he said So i said it ends at 12 noon .

Advance three weeks main therapist started blaming all my non stop pain that's been the same since before that Xmas week on nerve damage . Then said when's your appointment she rushed in called up the ENT department they either never saw the letter or never got the letter . Due to the call I got my appointment.
I also saw the useless letter that was sent to my doctor it said nothing except I was seen in the ED .

Guess I'm saying public health system has major flaws
After that head spin non stop therapy told me I could not catch buses home
Months and months after I said the bus there from the city and returning to the city made me light headed and feel sea sick . Nope refused to accept it told me don't look outside when in the bus never answered me on how to see a bus stop government rehabilitation therapists are useless

Just about all good now - a rather nasty case of gastro according to the ED, though my GP thought it was more than that.

Got given a week off and some decent pain killers (I dozed in and out through most of the Melbourne v Illawarra NBL match on Fox Sports this arvo after taking one).

Going back to the GP tomorrow with a letter from the ED for some follow-up.

Still hurts to walk around a bit, and stand for longer than a few minutes, but I'm keeping food down.

I went today to visit this lady, sadly she asked me to help her die, obviously I said no no no & tried to be positive in saying that although it'll be hard, frustrating with the rehab that with hard work & determination you'll get there, she just kept saying two things "I want my leg back" and "I just want to be dead"

This was the hardest, toughest & most sad thing I've seen probably in my entire life

thats so sad bayman can she see a someone who can help her mentally
i know shes lost her leg but sometimes we need help mentally hell i used to get into bed and think thats it dont want to wake up sometimes we need a person to help us mentally

im worried now im heading back to hospital tomorrow perhaps word on an operation
