BBL 2015/2016
BBL odds for this season
William Hill odds
5-00 MELBOURNE STARS
5-00 PERTH SCORCHERS
6-00 MELBOURNE RENEGADES
7-00 HOBART HURRICANES
8-00 SYDNEY SIXERS
9-00 ADELAIDE STRIKER
9-00 BRISBANE HEAT
9-00 SYDNEY THUNDER
Possible Adelaide Strikers line up
SIMMONS
LUDEMAN
JAYAWARDENE
HEAD
HODGE
ROSS
NESER
RICHARDSON
RASHID
LAUGHLIN
STANLAKE
Others squad members
DEAN
HOLLAND
KEATH
KINGSTON
JUNIOR BOOF
PUTLAND
SMITH
Alex Keath, from Victoria is now playing in SA
Will be interesting to see his progress in 20/20 or SS or AFL
Stanlake looks a promising fast bowler from Queensland
Pollard is injured and out of the tournament
Some interesting names this season
Kumar Sangakkara playing for Hobart
Shane LBWatson playing for Sydney Thunder
Johan Botha playing for Sydney Sixers
Potentially he best opening combo I could see is Gayle /Finch for Melbourne Renegades
Anyone can win this comp
I think the BIG improvers might be Sydney Thunder
They have finished 8-8-8-7 in the 4 BBL seasons
The top order of Kallis/Hussey/Watson means they should make enough runs to be competitive this season

Re: BBL 2015/2016
Who will go ?
Probably somewhere between 600,000 to a million people this season
Here are the yearly crowd attendances for the 20/20 comps in the last 10 seasons
05-06...69114
06-07...152262
07-08...100394
08-09...166192
09-10...308950
10-11...209090
11-12...550220
12-13...496845
13-14...657322
14-15...823829
The average crowd size of the last 2 seasons are the most
13-14...18781
14-15...23358
Lowest recorded crowd
3177 Tasmania v Queensland, Blundstone Arena 1/1/2009
Highest recorded crowd
52663 Adelaide Oval , Adelaide Strikers v Sydney Sixers 24/1/2015
The lowest crowd of 2014-2015
10152 ANZ Stadium Sydney Thunder v Brisbane Heat, 21/12/2014
These 2 sides finished bottom 2
The crowds are unabating
Ive read a few years ago, that some doomsayers said the novelty would wear off and crowds would drop
Well it simply has not
A 3 hour game appeals , a comp with premiership ladders and finals
Hey , I dont like whats its doing to Test Cricket, but i do like watching BIG bash games

You have to hand it to Adelaide. We have always patronised cricket and even before the AO redevelopment.
If someone has to lose an international fixture it sure as hell shouldn't be us.

Re: BBL 2015/2016
as posted elsewhere................
tonight big bash match showed why it is the most popular of all the forms of cricket, anyone who is critical of the big bash just has to watch tonights' match & the power batting of Travis Head (who has done it before) especially the last 5 overs when they (Adelaide) were way behind the 8 ball, he'll get some accolades but i'll bet if it was a Gayle or McCullum the media would be giving it air time for several days, i went tonight & thoroughly enjoyed it, i was surprised that some families decided to leave with 5 overs left, baffling in my book because the nature of the game is one over can change the complex of any match

I can see both sides of the story, however the bottom line is Mel was hurt so it shouldn't have happened..............i do recall another reporter Jessica Yates when the big bash was on foxtel flirt with Chris Gayle, this may've given him the wrong idea this time around

MEL-ODRAMATIC ?
Mel Mclaughlin v Chris Gayle
I saw it
I call it reality TV [THE BIG BLUSH]
Been happening for lifetimes
Boy asks girl for a date or similar, especially if they are as stunning as Mel
Thats if Chris Gayle meant what he said
At the time I thought he was joking , which he later admits to the press
If Mel is embarrassed , perhaps Chris could apologise

Heres some contrasting views on the Gayle/Mclaughlin Big Blush match
* Chris Gayles chatting of BIG Bash reporter Mel McLaughlin was ridiculous but just as out of line as those who dismiss it as just a bit of a joke.*
* He shouldnt have done it live on air but hey, men have been attracted to woman since the dawn of time and sometimes it strikes them at the darnedest times.*
Both quotes from female journalists
Heres a twitter from a female hockeyroo
* Next time I get interviewed by a male , Ill do a Chris Gayle and Im fairly sure no one would would blink an eyelid*

absolutely, hell there is a married female poster & long time friend on this site & whether it be a pm or text i always start ''Hi gorgeous'' she along with me knows it is just a nicety as we're friends
what Chris did wrong is when it was obvious that Mel wasn't comfortable, he should have diffused the situation by saying something like ''i'm sorry i was only mucking around with you''

I was so pissed off about that! Luckily they got it back for the last couple of balls.

i heard that the feed changed to another station.............Strikers' got out of gaol after being in a commanding position, i think they thought they'd just cruise to a win, played 'safe cricket' & all but blue it, Jake Lehmanns' moustache reminds me of the cartoon character ''Dick Darstardly''
never heard of Milenko but geez he bowled very well

i should have added in the pre game warm up the footy was getting kicked around & Adil Rashid could mark the ball not only with chest marks but with his hands as well, that surprised me a bit but there is a lot of work to do in regards to his kicking.......
is cricket the only sport that warms up on the oval with balls from other sports ?

10 actually switched to the New year's Eve game at AO for a few minutes.
I couldn't believe what was happening.
There would have been a whole audience full of peed off viewers if they didn't get the last few balls back on line.
I bet young Jake said to his Dad, "I bet you never did that with your first hit!"

I though Gary Sobers record of 6 sixes in an over was going to be at least equaled last night by Chris Lynn.
5 in a row is pretty damn good off a quickie.
And all but one of them went miles past the rope.
The one that just cleared the rope was hit that damn hard that it smacked the fence and bounced back a way.
This T20 stuff shows some pretty creative footwork at times.

How could it have been? The first ball of the over was a . (dot).

Re: BBL 2015/2016
I have to say that this year I have really got into the Big Bash.
I was as sceptical as most when it first started, I couldn't see how the whole franchise thing could work for starters, along with the concerns about what it might do to other formats.
I have to say I am absolutely a convert now. Love the game and how it's evolving, and I think it is working well as a stand alone format, while earning $$$ that can go back into the other formats and grassroots. It's also exposing the game to new audiences which is so important for the future.
It will most likely see the demise of 50 over cricket I think which is sad - but not damaging for cricket in general I don't think.

Re: BBL 2015/2016
it won't damage odi's because apparently they earn the greatest revenue, at least this is what i read sometime back on cricket.com.au
for me i enjoy all three forms of the game & enjoy their various individual characteristics, like needing 19 off an over to win or needing to bat for the last hour to save a test, all riveting stuff & all should be appreciated
what i don't like is the suggestion of putting in more teams, like the Gold Coast, Gosford & a few other centres that were mentioned on the same site, (this was mentioned as in 3-5 years time), fine play games at different areas of the country but with more teams i think the talent will spread thinner & therefore dilute the product
