That will be close to 70 days without a SS game
As much as I like 20/20 BIG bash , this is too long a gap between games
The SS players who dont play BB or TM have only grade cricket in that period

Meanwhile our Test team plays Boxing Day Test, New Years Test, then Test matches in NZ on the 12th and 20th Feb.

So any players picked to come into that side will and can only be on the back of Tee-ball form.... Sheffield Shield 2015-2016 - Page 3 2548818497

Hasn't seemed to have affected them in previous years of the big bash, can't recall any test series in that time that they've lost.......they'll get more people to one Adelaide Strikers home match than the entire days of shield cricket played at the same venue

That's all well and good if the Australian Team is in form and settled, hardly what you could call our current crop. There's Voges, S.Marsh and even Burns who could be removed if Shield form warranted it, but no chance when the best long form cricketers are playing in the parklands while high paid imports try and make 20 off 5 balls for their $100k.

This is where the theory that 3 forms of the game is too much gains traction.

The rationale to the scheduling is more about the $$ than preparing players for test cricket as it used to be. Sheffield Shield seemed to be the platform for that once.

But they have overlooked Bird and a couple of others to pick Coulter-Nile who hasn't played a Shield match yet.

Are they now preparing for the T20 world cup instead?

The best preparation and the best conditions for test cricket doesn't seem to be the priority anymore.

2 wins and 2 losses. But 1.7 points off being 4th.

                               P W D L BP Pts
1    Victoria              4 3 1 0 7.2 26.2
2   South Australia    4 2 0 2 7.5 19.5
3   New South Wales 4 2 0 2 5.8 17.8
4   Queensland          4 2 0 2 5.8 17.8
5   Western Australia 4 1 1 2 5.8 12.8
6   Tasmania             4 1 0 3 5.3  9.3

Things might work out for South Australia in catching up to Victoria
With Mitchell Johnson retired , and Mitchell Starc injured this might mean Peter Siddle and James Pattinson will miss a few SS games from here on
Scott Boland might even play Test cricket if there is more injuries

SA games for the rest of the season, with starting days
Home side listed first
3/2 SA V QL
14/2 SA V VI
25/2 NS V SA
5/3 WA V SA
15/3 SA V TA

Australian International Schedule FEB 2016 +
NZ V AUSTRALIA
3 X ODIs[feb3-feb8]
2 x Tests [feb12-feb24]

This next lot of matches will sort of emphasise Chambos $$$$ and Booneys  Sheffield Shield 2015-2016 - Page 3 2548818497
SOUTH AFRICA V AUSTRALIA
4/3
6/3
9/3
3 x 20/20 matches in 5 days
So Australia Internationals will finish up in NZ late february, then travel to South Africa to play 3 games of 20/20
Vics might have Finch, Maxwell and Wade missing SS cricket playing 20/20

JORDAN SILK
When will Tasmania re-select Jordan Silk ?
Silk didnt finish off last seasons SS season well enough
10 digs for 2 half tons and no tons was not a good finish after the 20/20 season finished , where he became a good slogger
Has 20/20 stuffed up his First Class batting ?

He has not been selected as yet this season for the Tassie SS team
Lack of form or injured ?

Will he be given another chance this season ?
Can he replace these top order batters?

DOMENIC MICHAEL
26 innings
484 runs
18.61 average

BEAU WEBSTER
15 innings
316 runs
21.06 average

JAKE DORAN
8 innings
185 runs
23.12 average

They make Jordan SilKs overall FC batting look good

JORDAN SILK
41 innings
1347 runs
33.67

Jordan Silk is very capable of
Batting well enough for the rest of the season , and pressing for Australian selection within 2 years

I still think players like Ryan Carters and Jordan Silk will play Test cricket
Whether they succeed ?

Interesting post by Bayman

I will post without giving an opinion , but the opinion of some others
When Australia is batting well and or winning Tests seamingly all is well often enough
BUT
When Australia is not batting well and or losing Tests 20/20 is sometimes blamed for technical deficiencies

Back to Baymans post
BIG bash formats have been played since 2005
When you look at Australias overall Test cricket form since then , it is good enough

I will admit at times I can see the negatives of 20/20 on Test batters
BUT
I will use David Warner as an example for a positive
He scores so quickly that he gives Australian bowlers enough time to bowl the opposition out twice

Without checking
I would say 20/20 is being played a fair bit by all the cricket nations
The South African version is being played in South Africa this month
The Indian Premier league is a premier 20/20 event
Australia has the BIG  Bash
Co-incidently these 3 countries,  who play this format regularly , are also regularly in the top 3 Test Cricket ranked teams

VI 180
SA 199
VI 163

SA need 145 to win this
Might be a tricky chase , judging by the low scores in the first 3 digs
SA should win this quite easily and sum of us can sLEEp well tonight

Maxwell 62
Cosgrove 50
The only 2 batters to have made half tons

SA looking good at 2/104, only need another 41. Tommy Cooper with 54 runs off 64 balls was just what was needed.

Excellent win by SA.

The bowlers keep giving us a chance and at last the batsmen are starting to deliver.

Brilliant stuff! Now the challenge is to continue the form after the long BBL break.

If I recall correctly 2 years ago the Redbacks were top of the table going into the BBL break and fell in a heap afterwards.

POINTS LADDER AFTER 5 MATCHES
VI 27.7
SA 27.0
NS 23.8
WA 21.1
QL 18.5
TA 10.9

The interesting match was the QL V NS game
Scores
QL 342
NS 260
QL 7/131 DEC
NS 7/217

QL set NS a target of 217
NS reached that target in  58.4 overs
So there would have been at least 59 overs to be bowled, and perhaps more
QL prob were concerned that VI and SA  were 8.5 + 9.2 points in front of them
So thats a genuine reason for what seemed an almost giftish target
However
Where was the intent by QL ?
The innings of 7/131 dec took 51.3 overs
They were 1/52 off 31 overs
Perhaps the deck was bowler friendly ?
Otherwise the QL tactics were questionable

''easy target'' after the game, however to win a match you have to be prepared to lose it by dangling a carrot, this is what they did, they weren't that far off & had they got the last three wickets, most would have said it was a masterstroke...................i'd much rather a team do this, lose by trying to win rather than what South Africa did, lose by playing for a draw

Callum Ferguson
Out for the season with a knee injury
The injury sustained during fielding practice for the Melbourne Renegades
A South Australian Sheffield Shield  cricketer injured when practicing with a Melbourne based BBL franchise team , ooouch
Going to be some upset Redback supporters

Does this mean the Melbourne Renegades have to pay for Fergusons medical bills ?

So who takes fergusons spot in the side now that he is out injured ? Is it young smith ? My side would be
Smith
Cosgrove
Cooper
Head
Ross
Lehmann
Luderman
Zampa
Mennie
richardson
Sayers
worrell  unlucky 12th man
Smith is only young so give him more opertunites I think or maybe open with cooper and bat smith at 6. young Keath has had a good grade season would he get a spot in the side.

Coza

How about Ludemann bats at 6, for a batsman, most prob Smith
Include the 4 quicks and the leg spinner ?

Or
How about Worrall and not Richardson ?
Worrall should play , he is bowling well
8/113 last match v Victoria
7/145 previous match v Tasmania

Don't think ludes has done much to use him as a number 6 batter and yes worrall deserves his spot for Richo, but the saca seem to pic richo when he is fit. His record for SA in 4day cricket ant that great yet and worrall is bowling well.
About the four quicks and a leggy if three quicks can't get the job done then why would four. Head and Cosgrove can always roll the arm over if needed. But if we have a young all rounder who could bat 6 or 7 then prush him up. Young Gregory or valente maybe. Some batsmen doing well in josh Barrett Alex keath could get a go some time soon.

Good to see young Andrews and valente given a chance but not sure why Raphael gets a go again, he has had plenty of chances and is not up to the standard I would have keath or Barrett in but that's just me. Hope Raphael makes a heap of runs but it's time to try someone new.
