Hindsight is a wonderful thing of course, but it was always a matter of "when" not "if".
His departure from Essendon unfortunately, will be remembered for all the wrong reasons and not what he did as a player.

I can kind of understand that they wanted to give their favourite son a chance to atone.
However in the end the enormity of what was done was just too much.
He had to go for Essendon to have any chance at rebuilding some kind of future.

At least Caro can run her story she's been sitting on for 3 years. Just needs to change the date and from "sacked" to "quit" in the header.

Seems strange that they stood behind him for this long only for him to go now, are two 100 pt thrashings in a season enough to get a coach sacked? - Perhaps it was the straw that broke the camels back after everything else perhaps?

Why do it with 3 matches to go?
Why not leave it till the end of the season?
Was it to save the Board from having to sack him?, than have egg on their faces.
Or did Hird really want to go? With a black mark against his name.
My opinion, he screwed up big time, see you later.

He said during the presser, he was told on Friday that the club can't move on while he was coach and Little was chairman (presuming that meant the 2 of them together) so he pretty much knew prior to last weekend he was gone.
Hird handled himself well during the press conference and looked a little uncomfortable next to Little. Won't be the last Hird has to say on the whole saga.

I expect Hird to tee off now he's free of any position of responsibility.

Unlikely IMO. I think anyone ( Caro, Robbo etc ) who has had a solid crack at him will be armed and ready to come back at him. Due to the unrivaled incompetency of the program it's reasonable to suggest others have the same, more or different information than he with ASADA / AFL leaks.
I do however hope he does....

James has never been one to let the truth get in the way of the defence of his ego.
Even in his press conference he said something like...
"... I asked the question, do you think Essendon will ever be treated fairly while I'm coaching the club."
In other words he still thinks he's been treated unfairly.
Give me a break.

Re: Hird leaves Essendon
Perhaps if Essendon decided that they really were going to sack Hird at the end of the season it might be better to do it now and then put themseves into the mix for the current group of assistant coaches that are being suggested as replacements at Carlton and Adelaide?
It seems that Brendon Bolton's name gets mentioned a lot and its suggested that its pretty much fait accomplai that he is going to Carlton, so perhaps Essendon also believe he is the best coach and want to offer him a contract, yet if they wait and he is signed by Carlton or Adelaide then they get someone lower on the pecking order?
I think it is still a risk making an assumption that because someone is an assistant coach at a top level club that in some way they will transfer that success and knowledge across to their new club. As I recall Mark Neeld did not make that transfer with any success at all after being touted by many in the same way that Bolton currently is?

He doesn't get it, does he. Hird still thinks he is the victim rather then one of the causes of this never ending fiasco.

Interested to know peoples thoughts on whether the Thompson bridges have been burnt?
Would Bomber be a candidate for Essendon? Or is he too, tainted with the drugs fiasco?

I think they need a fresh face and a new broom so they can draw a line under the whole fiasco and move on. (Just to pile on the clichés )
Appointing someone who was involved with the club just maintains the impression that they are still circling the wagons and trying to keep things "in house"
