I've always maintained they need a tougher taskmaster and someonewho won't play dumb footballers.

The AFC had a tough taskmaster coach in Gary Ayres and the club folded pretty quickly when push came to shove...

Still Fagan and Walsh seem to be cut from the same mould in terms of being harder style personalities. If Fagan can keep to his commitment to get the right people into the right positions at the AFC then there is every chance the AFC will begin to move forward.

Interesting to see that when interviewed on 5AAFL this morning that Walsh said that he would be speaking with each of the Assistant Coaches and outlining his direction forward for the club and he stated that decisions will be then made about who stays and who goes. My view is that it is unrealistic to replace the Senior Coach and then make him retain the same group of Assistant Coaches. He should have the capacity to appoint those people that he wants and have the confidence that they will coach in the way he wishes, not be lumbered with people that he does not want, nor does not wish to work with.

Up camping in the Riverland at the moment, hence the lack of posting!

Early days but this looks like a good appointment. My brother and were chatting Monday and we agreed that whoever was appointed, he needed to be a bit of a ****.

You might be able to shed a bit more light Booney, but it looks like Phil Walsh is more than capable of that when required.

All in all happy with the appointment personally.

Booney, you haven't offered your opinion on this appointment yet?

Would be interested to hear what you think being a Port man. The club was clearly not happy about losing him (while obviously supporting him in taking the opportunity).

One interesting thing that hasn't been discussed on here as yet also - the whole Koch announcement was pretty out of line IMO. In my mind it was akin to Smart's handling of the state jumper fiasco - yet Koch doesn't seemed to have copped nearly the same amount of criticism for his conduct.

A final observation on things in general down at the AFC. Someone compared a picture of Sando & Trigg at a presser versus Walsh and Fagan - was like putting a box of nails next to a block of butter....

Sorry mate, went over to Melbourne Thursday afternoon for a conference, got back yesterday and had not really had a chance to respond.

It is, from what I know of Walsh, an interesting appointment.

He, along with Hinkley and Thomas are the "first cars in and last car out" the car park, Walsh has an insatiable appetite for work.

I think he did more travel and opposition scouting for Port than any of the coaching staff. Watch Port play, get to the next or even the week after next opponents match to take notes, look at strategy etc.

He also seems very much no fuss, roll the sleeves up and get on with it and don't look back. Seemingly much as a result of his near death experience some years ago. He's highly regarded and might just be what Adelaide needs, with a new CEO I think he will have a better chance of success, clearly the last bloke who ran the show ran the show....

On a side note, Rhode, Richardson and Walsh, three key personnel have been the subject of a "raid" at Alberton, good luck to them and I ( kind of ) hope they do well. Wink

Her source is spot on. Their next coach has not been mentioned extensively, only in broad passing.

Senior Assistant - Mark Williams
Senior Coach - Peter Sumich
New Assistants - Ryan O'Keefe, Nathan Bassett

So ETTG - Seeing as you seem to have the good oil on this one - any of the above names close to the mark?

At least one name correct and in correct position.

As mentioned on September 26, Ryan O'Keefe joins the coaching panel, under the coach who had been mentioned almost nowhere to that point:

is it just me or do the crows still play a great game here & there & a lot of ordinary ones in between ?

i'd suggest while it wouldn't ''change overnight'' nothing much is different to previous years

I think a lot has changed personally.

The main thing I've noticed is that it seems that the players now understand and are prepared to do things 'the hard way'. I think in the Sanderson era there was a lot of 'Hollywood' about them - after such a successful 2012 they just thought they had to rock up and it would happen.

I think Walsh is successfully instilling some genuine work ethic in the playing group, and they have been on a steady improvement arc all season IMO. Injuries have meant that the improvement is not as evident in the results of games, but I can see it in the development of individual players and in zones, for example our defence.

I think Adelaide could be in for a very fruitful second half of the season.

It will be interesting to see Walsh over the next few months.

Clearly he has a dislike of the media and having to do pressers and I wonder if what we see in the media is different from the man behind closed doors.

My point, he seems so intense I wonder if people around him, players included can or will keep up?

IIRC he was given a "step back a little" at the Eagles....too much!

Different horses for different courses though - perhaps, given the 'Hollywood' nature of Adelaide's club culture, intense is just what the doctor ordered.

Agree, the 2nd half of the season will be very intriguing for both Adelaide and Walsh himself.
