Re: Adelaide's New Coach - Who?
Williams is looking like the bloke who may end up at all 18 clubs before his time is up.
He's a journeyman no question.
From playing to coaching here is his list;
West Adelaide
Port Adelaide (Magpies)
Collingwood
Brisbane
Port Adelaide (Magpies again)
Glenelg - Coach
Essendon - Assistant
Port Adelaide (Power - Assistant then Coach)
GWS - Assistant
Richmond - Assistant
There's 8 clubs
Yep he's a journeyman.

I don't deny there would be a fair element of risk involved in appointing him, but Adelaide have been a safe club for far too long.

If you get past the whole Port Adelaide issue and are comfortable picking an ex PAFC person to coach the AFC, why would you pick Stewart Dew over Mark Williams?
The "Port Adelaide Issue" is not new and is the reason why Graham Cornes was chosen to coach the AFC and not John Cahill who was by far the more successful coach at the time of the founding of the AFC.

Exactly BW.
Adelaide is always too 'politically correct'. Stop trying to please everyone. Stop caring what other people think of you. Just do what will best position us to win a flag.

I wasn't much of a wrap for Chocco as a coach in his later years at Port. It's 10 years since he coached a flag and 3 or 4 since he coached at all. Might not necessarily be the best option (not that I would be in a position to know). People get too scared of first time coaches unnecessarily in my opinion.

Ultimately we supporters just have to trust the decision makes I guess.
All I can say is thank goodness there is an outside in new CEO Fagan on the panel. The involvement of Ricciuto also gives me some hope.

Re: Adelaide's New Coach - Who?
The bitter pill that the AFC need to swallow is the fact that the recruiting restrictions placed on the club along with the loss of Tippett for no compensation and some other factors have run the AFC list downwards from where it was when Sanderson took the club on. Little of it can be sheeted home to Sanderson though, yet despite that the fact is that Adelaide need to accept that they need to go through hopefully a short rebuilding phase.
Its great to have a "premiership coach", but I would suggest that what I would be looking for in a coach this time around would be someone that can show evidence of rebuilding a list and making them competitive. Dew and Bolton do not tick that box, Bassett does albeit in the SANFL.
The one name that could be put forward could be Shaun Hart, Premiership player from the Lions, Development coach at the Gold Coast under Hinkley now Director of Coaching at Port Adelaide. As much as I like Nathan Bassett, Shaun Hart ticks more boxes in terms of being a good candidate as an untried coach than Bassett does.

More speculation this afternoon of a smokey who hasn't been mentioned in the media yet.
Mark Williams is one who hasn't been touched on, but Mark Harvey is another who no one has talked about but I would be very happy to have.
Very roughly dealt with by Fremantle, deserves a second chance IMO.

Re: Adelaide's New Coach - Who?
if i heard correctly on the radio today & ''Rucci'' is right in that the crows didn't want Basset because of a defensive game plan, that is the most ludicrous reason i've heard, to me it says Adelaide want to be an attractive pretty team rather than a winning team & being an attractive pretty team this year lost a lot of close winnable games.............yes i don't like defensive footy either but Bassets' game plan works & could only be improved with an AFL listed players being they are fitter, stronger, faster etc etc

Does Rucci actually know anything
Perhaps the crows would be prefer a more attacking game plan and a coach. If the other twats on AA can be believed that has a game plan that doesnt change every week !!
I know the crows beat the Power but they look better win more games and play finals .
While the crows just miss out
I'd rather be like port adelaide than adelaide of the last 2 years hate saying that !
And i was at Adelaide oval for that shocking game of football against melbourne

he may be great, he may not be, but i'll bet when they sacked Sanderson they didn't have Walsh in mind

As far as I can guess, I think Walsh looks ideal for Adelaide.
I've always maintained they need a tougher taskmaster and someonewho won't play dumb footballers.

Bit of a surprise replacing a rookie coach with...another rookie coach.
Not completely sold on him, but see how we go

I reserve any judgment. If he is as tough as they say he is I can see him upsetting quite a few lads and we all know what goes down when that happens.
Will he start a clean out of the players that are not up to it? Ala Blighty?

Good appointment I think. The bigger test is for the club to steadfastly stand by him and support every decision he makes, even when things might not be going so well. Seems as though Blight is the only one that's ever received that required level of support. (May not be the case, just how an outsider like myself perceives it)
