AFL and SANFL
There's no bigger fan of the SANFL than me, but those who decry the AFL need to watch the Showdown.
Just in the second quarter and I've seen 3 or 4 of the goals of the year, a possible mark of the year and great skills.

good to see your agreeing with yourself there R&B
I actually watched the whole game & thoroughly enjoyed the contest, however it gives me the 'pip' when players get caught & the ball 'spills out' & it is just play on, instead of the holding the ball free kick given, i'm sure the AFL just want the ball moving at all cost, including costing the game of its basic fundamentals

I agree Bayman, there were some obvious holding the balls that cried out to be paid.
And then they pay one in a pack that's ridiculous.

Re: AFL and SANFL
I'd love someone try to explain to me what these rules actually are and what the current "interpretation" actually is.
I have been watching footy for 45 years and I have to say that I have no idea what the following rules (circa 2014) are intended to police;
- holding the ball
- push in the back
- around the neck
- arm chopping
They are so variable season to season, and seemingly based on the rules committee and umpires director's changeable instructions, that the game just doesn't resemble what I recall it should be.
Watched the Ch7 game day highlights of Carlton v Collingwood 1981 GF. If the boffins could manage to control the game and its rules to allow contests like that every week then the game would be 100% better for it.
They forget, the players make the contest, not the rule makers.
