One for Scrappy, a rarity!!!
Scrappy......
I'm after a record (45') that seems impossible to find, my older brother used to hang out with this local Adelaide band at the time (late 60's - early 70's) who made only one single. the band was called the 'James Wright Group', and the song was 'Louise'. A great song that made the charts but that was it, got good coverage on radio, possibly 5KA or 5AD, which ever station was more popular for us rockin' 60's types at the time.
Didn't hear from them again, on record anyway.
There's Nothing on Youtube... i know they made an appearance on one of those tv music hit shows you watched on Saturday mornings, (channel 10? or 7? ) so there must be a recording some where.
Cheers.

Must confess I cant recall the James Wright Group
Have read up on them , they did have a drummer called John Swan
Swanee went on to forge a decent career
I have a treasured CD in my possession called :
BIG BEAT SCENE
It has 28 tracks of Adelaide bands between 1965-1970
There's a lot of unreleased tracks
It is a gem of a CD
The bands are ;
The Silouhettes
The Outcasts
The Reins
Five Sided Circle
Hugo
The Rythem
The Syssys
The London Criers
Wee Hike
Blues Rags N Hollers
Machine Gun Kellys Rejects
The Others
The Harts
Animation Unlimited
Autumn
The Force
The Blues Syndicate
The Bucket
Inside Looking Out
The Zoot
Nozmo King
Inkase
Travis Wellington Hedge
The only ones I knew about was The Zoot
They play a song called I Can Hear The Grass Grow
This is my favorite CD at the moment
Its expensive , and retails for close to $30 in some outlets around Adelaide
I'm after some more rare Adelaide vinyls and CDs from the 60s
Will post if I find any

I vaguely remember that song. I was a teenager at the time, around 13 -14 and it had a catchy chorus...
I might be wrong but i think it went a little bit like this......
We used to run together L _ o _ u _ i _ s _ e
We used to be happier than a ??? (something or an other)
That's where i can't remember anymore of the lines. But i remember the lead singer had a fairly deep voice and a good one too.
Is that the song F/B ?
God, that's a long time ago and a great era in music.
That's the song Spinner, my memory is as good as yours...we must be getting old.
I'l upload it to Youtube it once Scrappy has done his magical trick. We can't let classics from our youth disappear forever.

Re: One for Scrappy, a rarity!!!
Got a hold of some James Wright Trax
Heard Louise for the first time today[44 years later !]
A very good song
Lead singer has a rich voice
Bits + pieces of The Guess Who, Blood Sweat and Tears , and Douggie Parkinson in the voice
And just for some of you the opening line of the song
Louuuuuuuweeeeeeeeze
Like a picture on a photograph."

Things fell into place within the 24 hours
Sometimes it can take forever or never to track down rarities
I don't deserve any credit
Its the contacts that I have that track down rarities
Early South Australian artists of the 60's are generally under-rated
I come across some of these bands who never made it big time, and some of their tracks are excellent
JAMES WRIGHT GROUP
Tracking down the James Wright Group ends up being fun for me
FIVE SIDED CIRCLE
Five Sided Circle do a sensational rendition of Cadillac
WEE HIKE
Wee Hike were a band that gigs around Adelaide in the 60's
I know of a couple of members of that band
They had a catchy rollocky song called Howadiddi

Re: One for Scrappy, a rarity!!!
Well here it is, many thanks to Scrappy...
I didn't realize how great the lead singer's voice was...very deep and rich.
Blacky, go to the Video on youtube https://youtu.be/lom7Y122nNk and use http://www.video2mp3.net/ to rip the music to Mp3 and download.
Louise - went to no 2 on the charts 1970. Not bad for a local Adelaide band.

Re: One for Scrappy, a rarity!!!
Well done scrappy, I thought I might have that track on an old compilation album (33rpm) but I don't have it unfortunately.
The James Wright Band initially formed as a trio called The Big Apple in Adelaide in 1967 and performed there first gig at the Octagon in Elizabeth. They became a regular at "Big Daddys Discotheque"--now there is a name from the past. They were also known for a short while as "James Riot"
Fast forward a year and they became a five piece band known as "James Wright Group"
They shared the billing at many places in Adelaide over a couple of years with The Valentines, The Twilights, Max Merritt and The Meteors, Billy Thorpe and The Aztecs, The Mixtures and also performed as a backing band for solo artists including Johnny Farnham, Ronnie Burns, Jeff Phillips, Liv Maessen and Johnny Young.
Funny thing was that no band member had the name "James Wright" so I don't know how they came up with this name.

Re: One for Scrappy, a rarity!!!
Another one for Scrappy...
Back in the 60's, i had a 45 vinyl record that was lost over the years... i can't recall the name of the song or artist... That's a good start
It could have been called 'Seagull' or 'Seagulls'.. looked every where for it, there are songs on Youtube with the name Seagulls but not the song i want...
Anyway, this particular song was a protest type of song to do with the shooting of birds or animals...
In the chorus i remember a few words... 'There's a big man with a gun, and he's having lots of fun' and the sounds of boob boom (gun shots) Fairly quick lyrics.
I don't think it was a hit, but i remember having the record. It could be just one of many thousands of songs lost in space some where.
Tough one Scrappy... maybe an impossible one to find.
