If you haven't been for a look around GN, its worth it. Go when a Shield game is on and you can look mthrough everything. Its incredible.

I'm holding off until Adelaide's first home game to build the excitement!
Noticed some negative press around about the redevelopment, but personally I think they've balanced it well. Much better than some of our eastern seaboard counterparts.

Quality joke on cricinfo:
"Q. What's the difference between Shane Watson and 60mph? A. 60mph converts to 100."

We were hoping to put al the ashes discussion in here.
But if a separate thread for the second test is desired so be it.

I cannot believe Clarke decided to bat again.
If 400 runs is not enough to force the folow on, then how many do you need?
I reckon Chappelli and Tubbs would have made them bat again.
Now Clarke has put upon himself the decision on how many is enough.
For me they wouldn't want to be batting much the first session tomorrow. By then they should be 600+ ahead.
But an aggressive captain would have backed his bowlers and sent them back in.

was very warm today, he had to give them a break (remember India ?) i'd suggest he'll bat aggressively for an hour tomorrow to set up a 620 lead or thereabouts & then have 5 & 1/2 sessions at them

This is the scoreline stumps day 3
AU 570
EG 172
AU 3/132
A lead of 530 with 2 days remaining
Is Michael Clarke taking the pizz out of his pommie counterparts ?
For starters sides simply don't make 500 to win a match batting last
Australia more or less accumulated the 132 in 234 balls
Not that it will matter , but where was the urgency ?
Clarke 22 in 51 balls
Smith 23* in 54 balls
Was this team play or my protect my average play ?
I say declare NOW
The bowlers are rested
Try and finish them off , and not play a 5th day
What is the point in batting on?
Mental disintegration ?
The longer Australia bats , the better the prospects of a draw
Ronnie Biggs provided the great escape in the 1960s
And he ended up touring Australia from England as well
Lets not give Captain Cooks latest mob , ANY chance to escape
Imagine a bit of rain , maybe an injury to a bowler , a batsman plays a epic innings , aint likely to happen , but if it did ....
Its almo$t as if this whole bit i$ to get this Te$t to 5 day$
$omething need$ to be done to pay the new oval bill$ perhap$

Re: Australia v England Ashes 2013/2014
Look at this game played in a nearby country that finished yesterday
NZ 9/609 DEC
WI 213
WI 507 [Following on]
NZ 4/79
NZ needed 121
Were cruelly left 43 runs short of winning when it rained and wiped out the game
with ample time remaining
Lets delve a bit further in
NZ faced 30 overs and made 4/79 off 180 balls in the cahse
Ross boom boom Taylor following 217 not out in the first dig ends up with
16 not out off 61 balls
Sure rain cost NZ a certain win
But NZ did have 180 balls to mop it up
Being 4/44 didnt help though
That game only proves what can happen when you get a mile up
Clarke will not want similar in the 2nd ashes test

AU 570
EG 172
AU 3/132 DEC
EG 312
An emphatic 218 run victory
ASHES MEDAL VOTES
3 JOHNSON...8/113 for the match and that 7/40 first dig one of the great spells of bowling on a placid pitch
2 HADDIN...118 keepers that make hundreds are match winning efforts , and keeping well
1 CLARKE ...148 would normally be man of the match, made 22 in the 2nd dig
VOTING AFTER 2 TESTS
6 JOHNSON
3 HADDIN
2 WARNER
1 CLARKE...and he has made 2 tons !
GONG MEDAL
3 COOK.........3 +1 just had a rare very very bad game
2 PANESAR....2/198 and 2 runs
1 SWANN ....2/184 and 13 runs
VOTING AFTER 2 TESTS
4 SWANN favorite to win because Panesar will most likely be dropped
3 COOK
2 PANESAR
2 PRIOR
1 ANDERSON
I'm trying hard to get an Australian into the votes , maybe in the 3rd test

Re: Australia v England Ashes 2013/2014
How would the Poms feel. They know what the WACA pitch is like.
And going into the third test with Johnson being man of the match in the previous 2 tests.
I think I read earlier today that one of his bouncers at the WACA a few weeks ago went over the keeper and hit the sight-screen on the second bounce.
The Barmy Army traditionally drink at a pub on the Swan River called the "Lucky Shag". Recond they're going to need all of that in 2 days time.
Going to be interesting.....

I hear Beefy Botham had a bit of a medical emergency and is recovering in hospital in Adelaide. Hope he recovers quickly- appreciated him as a cricketer and have heard him speak since and think he's a cracking bloke.

Re: Australia v England Ashes 2013/2014
I was thinking pre-series Australia's best chance to win a Test was at the normally bouncy WACA.
Now England might be happy to play on a result pitch being 0-2 down
Surely Panesar will be dropped
Perhaps with some courage they can even leave out Swann
They could play 3 or 4 fast bowlers and Stokes
Fight fire with fire
If they don't win, then at least the English quick's should target the Australian bowlers and bowl eyebrow length at them
They have Finn, Bresnan[if fit] and Tremlett who could be selected
Australia don't need to make any changes
Last time they played in Perth
AU 268
Johnson 62
EG 187
Johnson 6/38
AU 309
Johnson 1
EG 123
Johnson 3/44
That was when Johnson was struggling !
Harris 3/59 + 6/47 excelled as well in that match

Rogers & Watto both out early again. Both have been underwhelming this series.
I still think there are a few holes in our batting personally. I would say only Warner, Clarke and Haddin have looked comfortable at the crease. The other 3 batters have been far from convincing.

Surely we have someone better suited to first drop than Watto also.

Smith has done okay as well to be honest, solid without being spectacular.

3/107 at lunch. Probably one wicket too many for my liking.
A question to our more 'experienced' cricket watchers on here - what is a good first innings score on this deck? Still 350-400?

Yep for sure.
If the bowling attack is on song I would say 250 - 300 is defendable, 350+ for a chance of a decent lead going into the second dig.

Some wickets lost a little cheaply yesterday, will be interesting to see how the poms go when the bat today!
