Adelaide FC Reserves
It's a reality now that the Crows Reserves team will be part of the 2014 competition.
We welcome supporters of this team to the forum.
For those supporters and for other teams' supporters, what are your thoughts on their prospects and where will they finish.
In favour or against, let's make this a good discussion.

Re: Adelaide FC Reserves
Early days and it depends how they flesh out the squad, but I think they'll finish around 6 - 8th.

Their top end will be very good, question is whether the bottom 4 or 6 drag them down.
Might depend too on when you play them.

Frankly I am still in denial that the Crows even exist in the sanfl competition.
I am going to try an avoid acknowledging them at every opportunity.
The only positive is that the Blues get Tim McIntyre back.

I asked Sturt's Football Operations Manager, Paul Sandercock this question recently and his view was that early in the season, when they've got most of their squad available, they'll be pretty strong. But as the season goes on, injuries mount up and they have to call on more top up players, they'll fall away. This sounds logical and unfortunately it's going to distort the competition to some extent. How much remains to be seen of course.

i agree with Paul Sandercocks' assessment but will add even at ''full strength'' i don't think they'll be world beaters

Fans are being asked to vote on proposed guernsey designs for the reserves side:

Wouldn't surprise if they scrape into the finals.
Where they may have problems as the season plays out is if they have a few tall young development types who cannot physically match it with the bigger bodies of some league players. Once it gets muddy and they get a bit banged up then the Crows ressies may struggle. With a full list they will be strong at the start.

Since they will be the away team for the whole season, presumably they are therefore going for an away style jumper.Gingernuts wrote:Fans are being asked to vote on proposed guernsey designs for the reserves side:

Yep that's right, all designs up for the vote are predominantly white.

Question to all posters--The SANFL league comp will now have 10 teams with the inclusion of the cows,
This still leaves the B Grade with 9 teams as they (THE COWS) are only in the League comp.
What happens to the B Grade of the side that plays them (THE COWS), do they just have a bye ?

I naturally assumed that Port would also have a League and Reserves team, must not have been paying to much attention.

wouldn't that be a reserves team in the league comp & reserves team in the reserves comp ?

Re: Adelaide FC Reserves
Was anything ever mentioned about Power/Port/Magpies having a team in both SANFL divisions, did that slip through to the keeper on all of us.
The simplest thing would have been for the League directors to apply a rule something like this:- Rule 1. Any person who is selected to play for either the Crows or Power Reserves teams will not be able to nominate at any time to the AFL Draft. Rule 1.1 There is no Rule 1.1
By having a rule like this it will keep youngsters from thinking if they play for the Crows or Power it is an easy entry for them to be picked up, the only people both clubs could select to play would be those who are not good enough for a SANFL League Club or those who never did have a chance of being drafted over time.
This will also make both Crows and Power not the dominating force that many of us on this forum think they will be.
Remember, you will never conquer with Brawn, Brains wins out all the time.

The SANFL would not be able to dictate the terms by which a player could or couldn't nominate for the AFL draft.

The AFL rules on drafting overrides any SANFL rule.
Besides, it would be a restraint of trade and legally invalid.

the draft in itself is a restraint of trade, but that's a different storyredandblack wrote:The AFL rules on drafting overrides any SANFL rule.

This is the answer.the prowler wrote:Was anything ever mentioned about Power/Port/Magpies having a team in both SANFL divisions, did that slip through to the keeper on all of us.
30th October
NEW Port Adelaide Academy coach Gary "Buddha" Hocking says he is buoyed by the number of existing Magpies players who have chosen to sign with the restructured club for 2014.
Hocking is currently conducting one-on-one meetings with 2013 Port Magpies players to see who will stay with the team, when it plays in the SANFL as the Power's second-tier side in 2014.
Hocking would not reveal names or numbers of Magpies players who had signed to stay at Alberton but was confident he would put together a competitive squad.
Port will field a side in the SANFL league competition made up of Power-listed players not selected to play AFL, and top-up players from what the club calls its Academy squad.
Port must also field a team in the SANFL reserves and an SANFL under-18 side next season, meaning Hocking needs to put together a squad of about 50 non-AFL listed players in his academy program.

Re: Adelaide FC Reserves
But, will the cows field a side in the SANFL reserves competition.
As it stands at the moment as far as I am aware of there will be 10 league teams and 9 reserves teams, can anyone confirm this ?
If this is correct then when any club plays the cows there will only be one game
So the cows get to play all of there players any given weekend but the team they play will have half of there players not having a game.

That's my understanding of the situation as well. The mess in 2014 is the SANFL's weak-kneed response, to Port threatening to boycott the whole deal.

Yes, Port's zone will be lost to them after next year and new zones drawn without them having one.

Re: Adelaide FC Reserves
at the moment, but deals, offers, talks etc could change some of that, it's almost like an experiment year to see the value of Port staying like it is in 2014 or changing to become more like the Adelaide version in 2015
