I played Shell Shield for East Torrens, missed 4 years of cricket while I concentrated on basketball, started again with Payneham, and then moved to Sturt as scorer and practice captain. Way too old to play these days but still have an interest in Payneham and Sturt. I have little interest these days in the Redbacks because they deserve to be where they are. How about you?

I played for Fulham in the A&SCA after leaving school, then for them in Adelaide Turf for many, many years. I also coached them on and off for about 10 years with some success and coached Pulteney OS to a premiership in 96/97, before returning to Fulham.

Just enjoy watching now, but footy duties have taken over.

You'd enjoy your role at Sturt, sounds a great way to continue to enjoy the game.

Another good solid win to the Blues this week. Adelaide making 294 the week before and Sturt 1 down overnight with Cam Borgas unavailable.

Sturt ended with 8/308, Jason Borgas 33, Tom Moffat 69, keeper-batsman Brad Davis 47, all-rounder Dylan Thomson 42, and a match winning 30 from paceman Tim Cece.

With Port Adelaide defeating Prospect, it has pretty much sewn up the top 4 for the finals with West Torrens, Kensington, Woodville and Sturt too far ahead of the others. There really are too many teams in the A grade competition, but that's another argument.

Interesting final round for ATCA A1 Grade with final four spots up for grabs.
Top team Brighton play 3rd placed PAOC at home.
4th placed Grange meet 2nd team Woodville Rechabites at Grange.
Payneham (5th) meet AHOS at home.
Pulteney OS (6th) play Pembroke OS at Morgan Oval.
Goodwood (7th) meet bottom team Woodville South away.

Brighton, Woodville Rechabites and PAOC appear safe to compete in finals, whilst Grange has the tough job of defeating a rampaging Woodville Rechabites to retain their position.

You would think Payneham, Pulteney OS and Goodwood would be favourites to win their matches, so if Grange topple, any one of those teams could secure a finals spot.

Should be an absorbing couple of weeks ahead.

Amazing cricket final at Adelaide today.

Woodville were dismissed for 164, top scorer Chadd Sayers with 31. George took 4/32, Kelly 3/60, Stanborough 2/27.

Then by stumps, West Torrens has crumbled to be 5/58, Skewes and Bradley wickets each. Stray began the collapse by taking as screamer of a catch in the slips.

Play starts tomorrow at 10.30am. Game should be close to being completed by lunch.

West Torrens all out for 77, Skewes took 6/17 from 6.2 0vers. At lunch Woodville were 1/48, a lead of 135 with 9 wickets in hand. Looks as though Woodville will be 2011-12 premiers.

I'm glad the season is over, I've had a gutful of pathetic batting performances for one season.

1967/68 Shocked

You've bowled the opposition for 96.

You'd be feeling pretty good.

The openers go out to bat.

The bowlers are Freeman and Hawke Shocked

You lose by 43 runs!!!

The remarkable story of that GF was Port Adelaide were 7/31, then 8/47, things looking grim until No.9 Warnken and No.10 Bennetts got them to 96. Then enter the Freeman/Hawke show. Not many grade attacks in history would have had two Test opening bowlers.

After making 53, pretty much the same Prospect team made 10 times that amount, 530, the following season.

The week before that Port v Prospect Final
This is an account from an observer of the time
The totals or exactness might be wrong, but here goes

Woodville v Port Adelaide
Woodville made about 113
In reply Port was 9/84 or thereabouts
During this Port innings Neil Hawke got what he thought was a poor decision against him , he got back to the dressing room , and did a Danny Christian act !
The coaches son was in the rooms , Neils bat went very close to hitting the young boy !
At 9/84 the thought of making , or winning a Grand Final would be distant

Mclauglin and Lethbridge [spelling of both players ???] where the last 2 batters
These 2 got Port over the line
The 2nd last ball of day 1 was swept for 4 by one of these Port batters , against Mick Clingly
On day 2 , the innings ended in the first over

Port got up by 1 wicket, and won the Grand Final the week after

Hopefully this post is accurate enough

You may be right about the 1st Innings, but in reality, Port Adelaide defeated Woodville outright by 7 wickets.

After Woodville made 113 (Hawke 6/27), Port Adelaide were dismissed for 114. In the 2nd innings, Woodville were ripped out for 63 (Hawke 5/26, Freeman 5/30), and Port Adelaide won the game with 3/64.

You would be thinking of 1987-88.

West Torrens batted their 100 overs and declared at 5/392. Paul Nobes made 215, David Hookes 87 not out, and David Cassidy 54. Noel Fielke took 3/29.

That would be enough under normal circumstances but Salisbury were no ordinary team. They had a great batting line up and a propensity for winning finals.

Glenn Bishop made 93, Peter Sleep 66, Harvey Jolly 77, and a 16 year old Darren Lehman walked in at number 6 and struck a matching winning 78 not out, the winning runs in the final over.

I didn't know who Lehmann was at the time ... I learnt quickly Smile

In a season where batsmen simply refused to apply themselves, we saw Glenelg win the A grade premiership by defeating East Torrens by 126 runs.

Glenelg batted first and were 6/23, then 7/74 before the tailenders walked in and saved the day to amount 238. East Torrens batsmen were also superb, all out for a paltry 112, good effort boys.

This has been an ongoing trend all summer with batsmen walking in and out and relying on tailenders to score the runs. Hey, batsies, how about getting involved in the game once in a while?

Haven't heard the final result of the ATCA final, but same thing. PAOC all out for 81, Grange only need 82 to win the flag, they were also dismissed for 81.

Maybe this is a trend in cricket. Forget specialist batsmen, they're bludging. They don't bowl and stand in slip all day picking their noses. Select a team full of tailenders and make some REAL scores Smile
