yeah it probably is to a degree, but there is anonymity associated with forums whereas twitter and facebook etc have real names

Twitter and Facebook can be as anonymous as any forum.

Your name on them is whatever you type in.

thanks Gazz, obviously i'd heard of twitter & facebook but i don't know how they work, i threw tout in because i saw it advertised on an American show only a few days earlier & had no idea what that was
