Yes cyber bullying is a problem - yes in some circumstances kids will be kids - but I think it comes down to that same old problem that we have more and more in society today - no respect - no respect for themselves, no respect for anyone else.

Sad really.

My wife only recently went through the worst period of her life through being bullied at her work place, a state government department. Twisted Evil

This went on for about 6 months and started to unsettle our home life, I became involved and consequently she no longer works there. Workcover were also involved and fortunately she was able to recoup all of the sick leave, long service leave and annual leave that she used up because of a low life BI@#H that was causing all the trouble.
Since she left she is a changed person and back to the happy woman she was.

To use the term "just harden up" is a very simplistic term to use when going through something a bad as this and I hope no one ever goes through what she did.

I wonder what would happen when speaking to these bosses and recalcitrant HR people if you rocked up to talk to them with a lawyer. Easy for me to say of course, much harder to think of all these options when you are stuck in the middle of such aggro.

It seems if you play the game by the organisation's rules, the likelihood of being swallowed up increases.

Company culture is an interesting beast that isn't always tangible nor easy to change for the better. Some workers get very territorial about shoring up their "empire" as small or limited as it may be.

Do people think that large organisations are worse for a bullying culture or smaller / medium sized ones?

I am curious on this one.

well the bullying issue i witnessed was in a global company.

It all depends on how well management understand the importance of a harmonious workace.

At my old job, there was a team leader who in a 12 month period had caused every female member of his team to break down in tears because of his management 'style', yet after (at least) 5 harassment complaints against him, was amazingly still a team leader...

I think in my workplaces case they turn a blind eye to everything. And I've seen some things not bullying let go .
Until order picking shelf stacking or whatever is slowed way down or gets behind then the **** hits the fan.
Last xmas eve my team had finished our work before knock off time .We were given a letter. Saying we were needed until 6pm instead of our normal finishing times over the xmas period(my knock off time is 3). I noticed a boss having a heated exchange with another employee in a different team.
I thought I better hide the last 20minutes . I noticed my team were all finishing at their normal knock off times .
Boss found me and told me I was supposed to finish at 6(even though you can not make people do over time anymore its in our EBA and they got in trouble in the past) as the letter i was given told me .Right when he was telling me this all his best brown nose staff were walking out the door saying bye to him!!
I'm thinking why am I being forced to do OT when the rest of my team is going home .And to rub salt into my wounds he wanted me to work in another team .Which I'd asked to move into about 10 times in 10 yrs always told so many versions of NO.
So I told him NO I was off to pick my lad up from his work .He said no way you were told in a letter to work to 6 pm I should have told him earlier . I said but my team leader knows I pick him up from his workplace .He gave up and said have a nice xmas !!
So is that another degree of bullying ?
Who knows but he used to make me do stuff like that a fair bit .Now I say no .

I've walked out on two jobs whilst on the job. After repeated offences (even after getting the union involved), I thought I'd just leave them high and dry and let them figure out how to carry on without me, no matter what it did to their day or schedule. Stuff those types of people.

Yep, you really have to wonder about someone, or groups of people, thinking cyber bullying in any form is OK.

Worse when they're adults and should know better.

Fortunately, most people rise above it, but it can literally kill. At the very least, it can cause severe distress.

It's too late after the event to say it was just harmless 'fun'.

what is facebook, twiiter & a tout for that matter ?

Twitter- short messages (text size) can be seen by anyone unless you specifically block them, can also post pictures (known as twitpics)
Tout- short (30 second) videos uploaded and viewed by friends
Facebook- share pictures, videos and other personal info, what you're up to, and with gps tracking leave yourself open to rape, household robbery and physical assault, as well as stalking. The most popular social network going around...
