Gaza Redevelopment Empty Gaza Redevelopment

Post by Ben W Thu Feb 02, 2012 11:12 pm

Have been watching the works at GAZA FC as I cruise past on North East Rd for a while now, noticed a sign up the other day calling for players and advertising the registration day. I know that roll out turf can be pretty good, but I am not sure how they will be ready in time for the Season? Does anyone know if they are going to use another venue for a time or if they do plan to be ready in time for round one of the SAAFL?

Doesnt look like they'll be ready until June now, and I believe they're training and playing on Greenacres lower oval until then.

Will not being able to play on there home deck, have any negative impact on them being able to go back to back premiers in A1.
I have also driven past in the last week and there is still plenty of work to be done on the oval, grassing it has yet to commence.

they have a strong group and considering they only lost one game last year, I dont think that playing a few more "away" games is going to upset them much.

Does anyone know if the local council are funding any of the redevelopment?

I think they've thrown in a fair chunk, someone from Gaza was saying the other day that this is the first lot of money that the council has spent on the club for something like 20 years (but dont quote me on that)

The council are paying for the lot, since the horses no longer use the facilities, there is no need for the stables and track. It's a total redevelopment of the 'precinct' including tennis club and other community groups who use the adjacent buildings. Gaza just happen to be the most public and well known tenants.
