Re: Screen Quotes and Quirks
No one could ever question the persona if Audie Murphy
However , there is no way he could control the crew of McHales Navy like Ernest Borgnine did

Re: Screen Quotes and Quirks
THE 5 YEAR ENGAGEMENT [2012]
Lovely movie
The gist of the movie is how Jason Segal and Emily Blunt really like each other but find ways not to commit to marriage
In a scene there is a flashback to an earlier part of the movie
Segal had this to say to Blunt close to New Years finish , after they had just met that evening
" Its 2 minutes to midnight , have you got anyone to kiss for New Years?"
This movie was played on Foxtel 408
The Segal 2 minutes to midnight line was made at precisely 11:58pm 30/12/2013 Adelaide time [we were watching the movie at home]
Very good timing by the Foxtel mob?
Or just a coincidence ?

Re: Screen Quotes and Quirks
Montgomery Clift
Mark Hamill
Van Johnson
Carole Lombard
Merle Oberon
Jason Robards
Edward G Robinson
All were involved in car accidents that resulted in facial damage
In the case of Monty Clift it affected his career
4 teeth lost
broken nose
broken jaw
a severe cut from his upper lip to his nose
He was patched up but ...
As a result Monty lost his confidence and was never the same actor
As far back as the early days, face lifts and surgeries were common
Strangely enough the Kirk Douglas dimple survived !

BOOBS
Enough cleavage was shown in the early daze
However a Government directive was enforced in 1934
Studios were told to cover up the cleavage and modify sex scenes
Imagine life back then in practicality
The roaring twenties had it all
Then by the 1930's Prohibition put the squeeze on booze , and you were not meant see a woman's prized assets on screen
Just how long this bubbleheaded boobyness lasted for, I don't know
Imagine Sharon Stone trying to attract Michael Douglas in a long skirt and a scivvy

Australian Swimmer & Actress Annette Kellerman (not sure of the spelling) is actually the first person male or female to do a nude scene in a movie......given her era this probably happened in the 1920's or 1930's....i think she returned to Australia late in life & passed away in our great country

ANNETTE KELLERMAN
The movie she starred starkers in was
A Daughter Of The Gods [1916]
You can see her part starkers , but with her hair covering her private parts
That picture of her, for those who are more than interested, is on Wikipedia

Re: Screen Quotes and Quirks
PHILADELPHIA STORY [1940]
Movie with screen greats Audrey Hepburn, Cary Grant, James Stewart
At the start of a movie Hepburns little sister was looping a Yoyo
That was in a 1940 movie
I had always thought Yoyos were a 1960s thingermajib
The late 1920's was a time of production of the Yoyos
There is evidence the ancients Greeks had played a form of Yoyo
If you have a Coca Cola Yoyo the retail worth is about $15- $25 at collectors shops in Adelaide

" I certainly hope your all republicans."
By
RONALD REAGAN
30/3/1981
This is what Reagan said to the doctors and nurses
Just before they operated to remove a bullet from an assassination attempt !
The man who shot Reagan was John Hinckley Junior
He shot Reagan to impress actress Jodie Foster [he wrote her a letter]
There seems to be a distinct possibility Hinckley hatched his assassination plot after seeing the movie Taxi Driver [1976]
Foster was a teen hooker in this film
De Niro makes an assassination attempt on a Presidential candidate
Hinckley's Dad was also a President
President of World Vision
Reagan made history
He became the only American President to survive after being shot

But a very overrated President!

Purely speculative
Reagan's greatest highs and lows
Lows: Getting shot by Hinckley 1981
Highs : Kissing Eleanor Parker 1947

Re: Screen Quotes and Quirks
ALMOST CASTS
Here's a few movies that could have ended up so so much different had other actors took the part
* Denotes the actor who played the part
Raiders of the Lost Ark : Indiana Jones
* Harrison Ford
Tom Sellick
The Terminator: The Terminator
* Arnold Schwarzenegger
OJ Simpson
Hard to imagine anyone but Arnie in this part
The Godfather : Vito Corleone
* Marlon Brando
Frank Sinatra
Yes Frank would have played the part well
Chicago : Velma Kelly
* Catherine Zeta Jones
Madonna
I think Madonna would have been a good choice
Star Wars: Han Solo
* Harrison Ford
Christopher Walken
I venture to say that Chris might have surpassed Ford
Rocky : Rocky
* Sylvester Stallone
Ryan O'Neal
Ryan is a great actor, but as a boxer, I find it hard to 'picture ' him in this film

Ryan O'Neal did play a boxer in a movie I think, but can't remember which one. Was it with Barbra Streisand?

Re: Screen Quotes and Quirks
RYAN ONEAL
Yes he was an amateur boxer in real life as a teenager !
Didn't spoil his pretty boy looks
The gals like him
Married 3 times. one being Farrah Fawcett[it is said he was mates with Lee Majors until he romanced Farrah]
Dated Diana Ross
Dated Bianca Jagger
Ursula Andress has been said to have had a romance with Ryan
His children also gave him other relations
Ryan was a father in law to
John McEnroe [why does the word tantrum come to mind ...]
Rebecca De Mornay
I can recall as a kid watching Peyton Place because others liked the show
Not the ideal TV show for a kid
Ryan Oneal was in that show
